| Just_Me, congratulations to your son and to you--that is wonderful! I remember reading this thread and seeing the "working on the family farm" part and thinking that he sounded like a great kid. Wonderful news!

Congratulations! I was sure he would get into top schools.
Is he planning to apply anywhere else, or is he done? (He still might want to throw a couple of applications towards those need-blind eastern schools with major aid money, just in case Stanford doesn't come across with enough $$. If nothing else, it might be a bargaining chip.)

Congratulations! Now everyone will want their teenagers to work on a farm.
Seriously, that was quite an accomplishment. I'm happy for him.

Thank you, all, for your well wishes!!
My son didn't apply anywhere else except the UCs and Stanford. He was pretty adamant about staying in California.
It is still pretty hard to believe that he got accepted.....

How thoughtful your son is! I'm impressed by the 2 questions he asked. A lot has happened since you were worried about his EC's! Congratulations to you and your son!

Congratulations to both you and your son. That's a wonderful way to end the year.
(My family owned an orchard, and I spent a lot of hours being hot and sweaty or chilled and wet, and when the fruit was ripe it had to get picked regardless of what I needed to do for school. I'd guess that your son has learned a lot about just digging in and getting less than pleasant things done. I know I did.)
Enjoy the holidays!

| Congrats to your son, it's a great school. I can't imagine Stanford won't be generous. They have so much money. When do they tell you about financial aid?

bumpy road
Stanford has already sent my son a tentative financial aid package and will finalize it after they receive our FAFSA and 2007 tax statements.
We are very grateful. We are of just average income (actually they consider us low income) and would not have been able to send our son to Stanford without their generousity.
Happy holidays, everyone. Thanks again for sharing in our joy!

As a parent, I always appreciate it when kids/parents provide updates, so here it is....
Son got Regents at UCB, UCLA, UCSD and UCD.
He is 95% sure he will choose Stanford. He will decide after going to Admit Weekend in April. Stanford has offered him a truly outstanding financial aid package; we, the parents, are not expected to contribute anything, and his contribution will be approx. $2000 in savings/summer earnings and $2,500 in work study.
We feel incredibly blessed....
(thanks to all of you for your encouragement, support and well wishes)

Congratulations, Just_Me. Stanford has been very kind to several of my students this year, and I am happy to hear they deserve kudos in your son's case as well. Do come back and update us as he begins college!
