Welcome to the AdmissionsAdvice.com Commmunity discussion forum. I've created this place to provide a safe and fun place to talk about colleges and college admissions topics. I'm glad you've found us, and I look forward to getting to know you.

My rules for this Community are simple:

1. All members MUST introduce themselves in the Community Introduction section BEFORE  they make their first post. It's fine to lurk for a while to get the lay of the land, but before you begin actively posting messages, you must introduce yourself to the community. NO EXCEPTIONS! Please keep security concerns in mind - you don't have to reveal information you want to keep private, but we would like to know if you're a parent, a student, or just someone interested in college admissions.

2. This Community is about college admissions related topics. Please take discussions about politics, religion, sex, business and other divisive topics elsewhere. If there is a controversial side to a college-related topic, please be open to listening to all viewpoints, even those you don't agree with, not just pushing your particular take.

3. Treat other community members as you would like to treated yourself. That boils down to respecting the opinions and experiences of other community members. No snide comments about other people's decisions, no personal attacks, no subtle digs. Choose your words carefully. It is fine to have a different opinion, but if you express it here do it in a way that takes the other person's feelings into account more than your own. If I receive complaints in private, I will let you know that you have stepped on another person's toes and remind you of this rule.

4. No profanity, obscentities, spam or business promotions. No links to websites with any of these either. Failing to follow this rule will result in immediate and permanent suspension of your community privileges.

5. This community will be heavily moderated. If you feel you can not agree with my moderating decisions, then it is probably best to look for a different community.

6. If you feel another member is not respecting your opinion, please let me know privately, either through a PM or through an email. I will then remind the other person that civil behavior is prized here.

7. College admissions officers, private counselors charging for college admissions consulting services, and companies selling products or services competing with AdmissionsAdvice.com  must contact me before beginning to post. No products or services can be promoted or sold through this discussion forum, although members can recommend products and services that they have found helpful. The owner of this site reserves the right to edit any commercial posts, and suspend the posting priviliges of those making them. Please do not use taglines with links to your personal websites within the text of messages. It is fine to put links to your personal website in your profile and direct members there.

8. I pay for the bandwidth of this site. To keep costs under control, please avoid posting non-college related pictures (those are fine), videos (college related ones are fine). I may, from time to time delete threads which are no longer active to save bandwidth. Additionally, please do not post entire full-length copyrighted articles to the site without my express permission before doing so. It is fine to post links to interesting college admissions related articles on other sites.

9. Please use black type for the majority of your posts. It is fine to use color for an occaisonal word here and there, but black is preferred.

With the exception of number 4, which will result in immediate suspension in all cases, I will try to follow the "three strikes" rule here. That means that when you violate one of the other rules above for the first time, you will get a polite message from me pointing out the error of your ways. The second time you violate one of these rules, you will get a sterner message warning that your Community privileges will be terminated if you violate the rules again. The third time you will have your Community privileges turned off. There will be no discussions, no extra chances. However, I reserve the right to suspend the 3-strikes rule when I feel it is necessary. All decisions of myself or any of my support staff will be final. If you do not agree, I encourage you to find a different discussion forum more to your liking.

Finally, I will occaisonally add Community rules and expectations as necessary. They will be posted here in the Community Rules and Announcements section. All Community members should stay alert for new messages appearing here. I'm happy to consider suggestions for improving the community, but would prefer that you contact me privately if you have an idea, criticism or comment.

Thanks, and I am pleased and delighted you have decided to join our community!

Wow, has it really been that long? Thanks to everyone who has made this place a fun and safe community. Without you, AA wouldn't be turning two!

(and thanks, DesperateDad, for noticing!)

Congratulations! This community has become a second home for me, even though mine are done with the undergrad admissions process.

I love this site! Thank you Carolyn for all your hard work. You have helped so many families navigate the college admissions process with a much more enlightened approach. Happy Birthday AA!
