Hi.

I re-took the SAT Reasoning Test in November, and just got the results today. It didn't go down too well. Apparently I only improved in one of the sections, and did worse in the other two. I don't know why -- I really thought I'd do better this time around. Oh well.

Now I'm wondering about how "superscoring" works. How do they run the system? Are colleges able to see ALL the scores? How do I find out which schools superscore and which don't? So far, I've only heard that UC doesn't. I tried looking it up on different school websites and stuff, but didn't come up with anything ... so maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks. :)

All your SAT scores are sent if any are sent. So yes, the colleges will see all your scores.

Most schools will tell you if they superscore. Go to the Admissions page on their websites and look for the information on standardized testing.

If you tell us which schools you're interested in, maybe we can help.

If you have already sent any of the colleges your first scores, you are not obligated to send your second ones. If you send your second ones, the first ones will automatically go, too.

Most private schools superscore - it is in their best interest to do so.

DesparateDad is correct: Most private US colleges superscore, although there are a few that don't, and quite a few publics do as well.  That way, they can claim to have the highest possible test scores for guidebooks, rankings, etc.

However, if you already sent your earlier scores to any colleges you plan to apply to, you will need to have them resent if you want them to see the latest scores.
