Hi all,

Due to a scheduling conflict, my son had to drop Jazz band.  He's signed up for 4 AP classes plus 1 college class plus he's TAing for AP Stats (he is TAing instead of Jazz band).

My concern is if the UCs will not think this is "rigorous" enough.  When I count up the number of A - G semester courses, I come up with 39, and on this site http://www.geocities.com/kisasong/UCSDComprehensive.htm, it says that more points are awarded if the student has taken 40 or more A - G courses.

"33-39 courses: 250 pts
40 or more courses: 500 pts"

My son does not want to "game" the system, but I am wondering if I should be concerned.  Should I insist that he takes another A-G class so he will have 40+ A-G courses?

My son took Algebra and Geometry in Middle School.  Does that count toward the number of A-G courses?

Any advice would be appreciated!

First off, UCSD is the only UC that is so point-oriented, but Davis is close.  Yes, Algebra & Geom taken in MS count.  And, a class at a community college may count for two, depending on the curriculum.  For example, Span 1 at our Calif community college is one semester long, but it covers one years' worth of high school spanish, so it would count as two a-g courses.

Yes, the class scedule looks rigorous to me -- five classes, all AP or college level, plus TA work.

I agree with DD - his schedule looks fine and should not be an issue at any of the UC's. :)

Worrying is an occupational hazard when you're a parent. ;)
