NJDad,
Congrats on the move, house sale, job change, etc. Hope you have a wonderful holiday in the hotel! (Really. We've had some great non-traditional celebrations, just because they were non-traditional!)

Thanks for all the good wishes. The fact that we, including daughter back from Egypt for the holidays, will all be together is the best Christmas present.

Just an update for those who sent their good wishes when we moved in December. Our son finished his fall semester at his old school in the Seattle area in late January, then a week later started his spring semester at his new school here in New Jersey. The taxes are high here in NJ, but they do spend more money on the schools. Lots of helpful counselors and class size about 20 versus 32 in Washington.
The counselor at his new school was able to get our son into classes that matched well with his old schedule. The only change was that he'll take U.S. history in 11th & 12th grade instead of 10th & 11th like the regular progression in NJ (NJ requires 2 years of US history). The new school weights grades, with honors and AP courses with grades up to 5.0. They also calculate GPA based on whole year courses, so they transferred his grades from his old school fall semester. So it has all worked out.
In some ways it's good to make these transitions in the middle of the school year. Our son got to know quite a few people, and he is now playing football and soccer with kids he met at school. So for the summer he knows kids he can hang out with.
So for those contemplating moving with kids in high school -- it can work out, although it does take a lot of work and scheduling, and it helps to have an understanding family.

WA/NJDAD,
Ah, the taxes! I'm glad to hear that things worked out for your family. We have moved six times and I always waited until the end of the school year. Looking back, I would have done it differently..just for the reasons you mentioned. Enjoy the summer and settling into your new home.

| I hadn't checked out this thread before, but now I notice that WADad's son is going to the school I was incarcerated in, I mean the school I went to, so many years ago. Two of Fang Jr's cousins are students there right now. Well, not right now, because school is out, but they'll be back in the fall. Last edited on Sat Jun 28th, 2008 05:06 am by CardinalFang
