I'm taking a guess on the answers.

A, the college in the city: Trinity

B, the most important element: Carleton

C, words that describe me: Beloit

D, fictional roommate: Oxy

E, most influential teacher (what an unoriginal question): South Carolina

A: There are only a handful of nationally recognized liberal arts colleges located in cities. How might XXX’s location in XXX shape your college experience? What additional characteristics influenced your decision to apply to XXX?

B: Some say that oxygen is the most important element on Earth, for without it we would all die. Others say it is carbon dioxide, water, or chorophyll, etc. Select en element, molecule, or compound, and justify ranking it as the most important chemical to our planet.

C: "The XXX College book of love, luck, fame, flops, art, soup, soul, sweat, green lights, big ideas, impossible questions, captains, huggers, band, marmots, glaciers, risks …and everything else otherwise known as life.” What words otherwise describe you or your life? No essay required, just words.

D: Select a fictional character to be your freshman roommateand explain why he/she/it would be a good choice.

E: Name the secondary school teacher who has most influenced you and briefly explain why.

Schools:

Beloit
Carleton
Occidental
University of South Carolina Honors Program
Trinity University

I'll have a go at this -- and I swear I am doing this spontaneously without research of any kind.

A: Oxy - it being one of the handful of LAC's in a large city. Trinity is, too, but I don't think they worry about San Antonio being a bigger draw than the college itself.

B. Carleton - quirky and science-oriented, but not techy

C. Beloit - sorry, I just happen to know it matches Beloit's marketing materials

D. Trinity - by process of elimination. I'd have the most fun with this question

E. USC Honors - straight forward and uncreative, not from an individualistic LAC

OK, how'd I do?

Edit: Ooops - cross-posted. Looks like CF and I disagree on Oxy/Trinity.

I used exactly the same reasoning as you, Descartes, except I didn't realize that Oxy was actually in LA. I thought it was in one of those endless Southern California suburbs. Llike you, I knew the Beloit one-- I looked at their app a few days ago.

There's nothing wrong with the Carleton question, but good for USC for surprising me!

Well, the only one I knew was Occidental because my D applied there this year. :) It is the only LAC in the entire city of Los Angeles, a city full of major Universities.

Are there such places?!?Sewanee, W&L, Samford, et al come to mind. Not too many people who prefer to throw on sweats and a t-shirt for class. :D

How would one go about determining whether such funding exists for undergraduate research? There are several sources for funding. Many schools have research support or fellowship offices, while others have special research programs (like UROP at Michigan). Many departments offer their own undergraduate grants (e.g. Classics at UNC offers scholarships).
