My guess is that our kids will find in the the movie "Accepted" the kind of comic relief that we find in the book "Acceptance". I thought it was pretty funny, too, though of course really dumb.

After being rejected from every college they applied to, a group of friends create a fictitious university, South Harmon Institute of Technology (note their accidental anagram), to fool their parents. However, their deception works too well, and every other college rejects starts to apply to the school. Bartleby, the hero, actually creates an alternative (very) kind of school, while of course also trying to win the heart of the girl next door.

2006. On DVD.

We've seen it. Kind of dumb and cute at the same time. Silly but enjoyable, with all the usual stereotypes. We laughed. I just hope my kids don't end up at South Harmon!

I just finished the book Acceptance and it was a riot. I honestly believe the author is either a poster or lurker on CC. Too many coincidences in the book.  The situations were so so true...I actually read the paragraph about the "tour guide who had mastered the art of walking backwards in flip flops" to my daughter who IS a tour guide. She even chuckled. This book really is entertaining and you are sure to find someone in it you know.

Accepted is one of my teens' favorite movies!  They LOVE it, and have shown it to every one of their friends.  To unschoolers, the educational component isn't that far fetched.  It must seem incredibly insane to most people that opting to specialize in only zen meditation (or exploding things)  could work.  I love the film and think it's completely different from most films about teens because they aren't screwups.  In this film, it's the straight-laced guys down the block at Harmon who are made to look foolish.  Interesting twist.

I liked both the book and the movie, which are completely different.  I somehow thought the movie was a rendition of the book.
