I'm both cringing and laughing out loud every chapter.....right at Starbucks over my latte.
About Harry.......his mum remarks that she hates his conservative politics but doesn't think she can take him to a psychologist on the basis of his being a Republican. A friend recently said almost the same to me about her son! (no offense.......I'm sure this works in reverse, too.)
None of the kids is at all like my son, and the obsessive milieu is foreign to most Canadian parents. However, for me, reading it is like having someone keep me company.
PS I was just in Seattle and got it at the Eliiot Bay bookstore.Last edited on Sun Jun 17th, 2007 07:07 am by Canadian

Specifically, the character AP Harry seemed unbelievable. I'd have to choke him. And the name is reminiscent of AP Frank, from Alexandra Robbins supposedly true chronicle of today's top students, The Overachievers: The Secret Lives of Driven Kids. Now that I think of it, Maya, another character from Admissions, also reminds me of one of the overachievers' profiles.
Don't forget that Robbins was profiling students of Montgomery County Public Schools and the school of APH and Maya was also in Montgomery County. I didn't like Robbins' book at all; I LOVED Acceptance!

LOL, Maybe even similar to the book Admissions, the book this thread is about is Acceptance.
For what it's worth Admissions, about the kindergarten and high school admissions frenzy in NYC, is a very funny book, but does have a very similar flavor.

I can't wait to read this. I put it on hold at our library last month, but there is a huge waiting list and it's moving very slowly.

Primetime Mom sent me her copy, and I read it this past week! It was very enjoyable and a quick read. We were on vacation (a college tour trip, actually), and I could hardly keep it away from my rising 9th grade daughter. She ended up finishing it before I did! Rising senior son doesn't want to read it, so...
I would be happy to send this copy to the first person that PMs me!
(Don't worry if I don't answer right away - I'm away from home today but I'll check back later this afternoon)

I just checked and it's on hold at the library right now. They were supposed to contact me, but didn't. I can't wait to read it!
