Take 30 pairs of socks and underwear. 24 shirts. Enough sheets and towels so they don't need to do a lot of laundry. When travelling, ship some items if you can't transport easily. Buy other things there. Have a shipping company bring the car rather than driving it yourself.
I'll have to go back and look for more. That's what I remember offhand.

Pencil, it's probably too late for you now. I skimmed through the book. It's mostly common sense things on how involved to get, how to approach your child during freshman year, banking, money, health care. There is information that can be used after move-in, too.

| When is everyone leaving for school? Carleton's dorms open Sept. 5, with frosh orientation starting the next day. We're flying up Sept. 1, which should give us time to shop. I'm having bedding and basics shipped from BB&B. S's girlfriend is going to UChicago, and they don't start till Sept. 15. My 5th-grader started Aug. 9. Yikes.

We bring son next wed for orientation. School starts Monday the 27th. We are driving up in the am and moving him in that afternoon. Then the next day while he is at orientation I will pick up whatever items he needs.
I love the underwear and socks in bulk. My son went to a summer program for 4 weeks and did laundry only once. Gross. Don't expect college to be much different.

| Move in for us is the 28th, parents' orientation on the 29th, student orientation begins on the 29th & lasts through Labor Day. (No summer orientation at all - move in, do orientation & go!) Classes start the day after Labor Day.

Limner:
Plenty of shopping available between Twin Cities and Northfield. Target is based in Minneapolis, has a maga-store on route to Northfield and has a store in Northfield.
Really no need to ship anything, Northfield is only 30 miles from Mall of America and lots of shopping in-between.

The only problem with the Target in Northfield is that the students at St Olaf arrive a week ahead of the Carleton students, and the Target doesn't have the time to restock everything. But there certainly is plenty of shopping within a 30-45 minute radius.

Son is driving up Sunday the 26th, his tiny car will be stuffed. Maybe dad will go up in my SUV also that day with stuff. If not, I will take stuff up and drop it off Wednesday or Sat. Son will be busy helping out during orientation.
School used to start on Labor Day. The last two years, it has started the day after.
I have a friend whose daughter is going to start pharmacy school at UOP. Her brother is driving her there this Saturday. Her dad plans to visit in Oct. She already has a BA from a UC, but this will be first time away for school.
