S's move in day is the last week of August.  Are you all ready for the Big Day?

We will be driving to Ohio on August 15, for move-in on the 16th.  D comes home from Germany on the 7th.  Bad news is there is not much time to get ready.  Good news is that we will be too busy to mope.

Moping starts August 17th. :(

Meanwhile, S2 comes home August 12, and leaves late Aug/early Sept.  (School starts day after Labor Day.)  He doesn't have a place to live yet - He's holding out for dorm space opening up at the last minute, and is prepared to camp on a friend's sofa for a little while if necessary.

We fly out the last week in August and school starts after Labor Day.  D already knows her roommate and they've been communicating about renting a fridge, etc.  We have NOT done anything .  D has been out of the country for the last three weeks and I'm planning on going light.  Which is likely wishful thinking as my D never travels light.  She has her laptop and we'll buy sheets and towels.  Other than that, we have two days to pick up stuff when we get there.  I'll ship winter clothes later.  This is very unlike me, but maybe it's a good time to start letting go :?

I think everyone but the dog is ready for the "kid" to go back home(school).  He leaves Sunday the 26th.  Most of the school stuff is stll in the plastic containers used to move back. I usually help with the big stuff-but I have to start drinking my colonoscopy prep at 1 pm that day.  If I postpone, my younger sister will kill me-I should have had one almost 4 yrs ago.

DS returns to Boston on August 20 where he needs to pack his kitchen stuff to move, and sell (or give away) his bedroom furniture. We pick him up there on the 24th or 25th. Then we leave here on the 30th to drive him to Winston-Salem. He has to be there by the 7th of Sept, classes don't start until the 12th or something like that. No moping...but I am going to worry as he knows no one there but his trumpet teacher.

DD flies back to CA on September 14. Classes don't start until the 18th. She is actually going back early to help with move in.

Empty nest returns the 14th of September.

Move-in is August 28, freshman orientation starts August 29 and parent orientation is August 29 (although there are some informally scheduled activities for the evening of the 28th). Classes start the day after Labor Day.

We once again take the prize of "Last to Start" -- classes begin September 26.  However, my son is moving into an apartment this fall instead of going back to the dorm.  He gets the key September first, so who knows when he'll be gone?  There are a few things to take care of, like power and Internet service, just the bare essentials, y'know.  Be interesting to see how fast these problems are solved.

We fly to Minneapolis on Sept. 1. Dorms open on Sept. 5, so we'll have time to buy some stuff (I already ordered basic bed stuff from BB&B and it's being shipped Aug. 20). I think I'll save towels and Target toiletries for MN shopping. We'll also check out IKEA for lamps, duvet covers, and other fun stuff.

Carleton freshman have 4 days of orientation, so they should feel a bit acclimated by the time school starts.

I'm trying not to think about how much we'll miss him. My husband will be a wreck. One of his grad students told me last night that he'd forbidden S's leaving as a topic of discussion. :?

Move in Aug 22 for orientation. Rest of the freshman move in on the 24th. School starts on the 28th I think. Since decision to go this fall is just 5 days old I still have lots to figure out. Luckily school is in driving distance. Made motel reservations for two nights.

My daughter isn't a freshman, of course, but she'll be heading out on August 18 as she and her Dad are going to drive her car to Wisconsin. This may sound strange, but I am having a MUCH harder time dealing with her leaving this year than I did last year when she WAS a freshman! It has been so wonderful to have her home for the last four months, and it will be so quiet when she leaves. Sob. :(

Carolyn, I felt exactly the same way with my oldest S.  I was as excited as he was when he went off to college as a freshmen, and I wasn't sad at all.  But then he was gone for most of the year, and we all realized how much we missed him.  Then he came home for the summer and all was well.  When he left for the second year, the rest of us knew exactly what we were in for, and it was much harder.
