Often in my haste to read the forum I end up skipping Carolyn's wonderful blog.  Her article on Destinations and Decisions today is worth sharing with our kids and their friends...and posting on Senior bulletin boards. My older D had a hard time letting go of the school that waitlisted her 2 years ago and even today when she heard that a friend of her younger sister got into UTOPIA UNIVERSITY she made a negative comment.  She loves where she is but letting go is hard.
My younger D did fall in love with almost all the schools she applied to and shrugged off the thin letters but several friends are having a difficult time adjusting to their new itinerary.

and my Daughter really does fly to Paris on the 4th of April!

Yep, already copied and pasted it to my S. I always check the blog to see what's new. Carolyn not only has excellent ideas and information but they're always wonderefully well written and readable.

I'd be in a straitjacket by now if it hadn't been for Carolyn!

Oh! And bon voyage to your D, CalifCarolyn!

Julia is going to Paris with her French III class.  She will stay with a family for 5 days and then tour with a group of 18 from her  HS for 5 more days.  She is also meeting up with a couple of girls she met last summer with the GYLC program, one from Paris and the other from Norway.

Elizabeth leaves for France 9/2 and returns on 12/22-she will be in Lyon with the Notheastern Univ Business Dept....

I think I want to be my girls...I have never traveled out of the country father than Ensenada...but I will at Thanksgiving :)

OK, tell Julia that she MUST do this for me: eat at least one baggette, and think of me when she sees the Eiffel Tower. Paris is my absolute favorite city in the world, and I am so jealous!

Now, I'm going to be able to look forward to hearing all about your trip to France next fall -- I'm sure that will be almost as good as going myself.

CalifCarolyn,

I just got an email from from a family friend.  She spent last year in France via the NorthEastern business department and will graduate in May.  It sounded like she had a wonderful experience.

Scoop--thank-you for sharing that info My D is so excited and since all of the classes are taught by Northeastern instructors she will be right on track for graduation (and it will actually be less expensive than a semester in Boston because room/board is included in the total cost which is her tuition)

Carolyn I will cut/paste your request and send it to her right now :)

CCarolyn,

If your daughter has any specific questions I'm sure I could put them in touch via email.  I know she was in a small town outside of Paris during the first part of her year there, but don't remember the name.

Thanks DD - thanks to everyone actually. It is always nice to get positive feedback. Hope you will also check out today's article, which is more on the nitty gritty of making the choice. I have been overwhelmed for the past few days talking to kids who are having a tough time making the final choice. It seems worse than in past years, and I'm wondering why that might be. It's not just a matter of waitlists, or rejections, but I've been hearing from a lot of kids who have excellent options yet are still having trouble deciding.

Carolyn, your article today is just what's needed in this house - thanks! My daughter is mostly trying to decide between two options, but every now and then one of the others crops up in the dialogue. What I'm finding surprising is the difficulty I'm having in giving her information and feedback that can help her with her decision. I don't want to unduly influence her with my biases, but I also can't even figure out what all of my own biases are. Or I think my wish to have her stay closer to home is unduly coloring my views, and I don't want that to play a role.

Vocca, I'm using the duct tape to try and keep my biases from coming through, but I know just what those are.:)

Up to this point, I've been really good about being neutral (except for pointing him toward schools I thought he should consider). But I definitely have a front runner now.

It sounds like you know where your biases are, and are probably good about hiding them.

carolyn:  how could your forget #8?

Regardless of what you list for #1-7, ALWAYS go with the highest ranked college on USNews.  Or, at least what your parents tell you.  :P

Sent a link to my D. Hope she reads it.
