| Daughter decided at rather last minute (1.5 weeks before) to apply ED. Rather a rush, but her Common App essay (which she used instead of the optional school essay) was in good shape. She has only one other school that requires supplemental essays and she's almost done with those. Her other schools are Canadian- just the facts, please- and no essays.

My son's plan of getting everything finished by Thanksgiving fell by the roadside last week. Seems it is much more important to practice with the new 60's cover band he started then finish up his college applications. On the other hand, he is up in his room right now, supposedly typing up the last essay for another application, so all might not be lost. I am very glad, overall, that he has a relatively short list of just six schools. Last edited on Sun Nov 25th, 2007 09:05 pm by CarolynLawrence

My son got his UC app in yesterday. It was pretty easy for him because he reused his essays and because the whole process of entering coursework is so completely homeschool unfriendly, I did most of the work.
His next deadlines is Jan 1 - for Princeton, Stanford and maybe U Of Chicago. I think he is going to wait fo see how his early action schools work out before starting on those. This means we could be done. Fingers crossed!

| My son received his acceptance from Indiana University the other day, and today I finally got the chance to read through it and saw an invitation to apply to their honors program and selective scholarships. Great news, right? But that means another application to fill out, complete with three essays, two letters of recommendation, activities resume, and GC statement. And it's due by Dec. 23. Just when he thought he was done, he is not done. Last edited on Mon Nov 26th, 2007 02:40 am by hummingbird

My son has been working on his Stanford app during Thanksgiving break: 3 more essays, a bunch of questions, such a pain! He promised that he'll finish the application by the end of the week. After that, 3 more common app supplements. Should be done by Christmas.

orchestragirl hit "submit" on app # 3 last night. Three more to go, with a goal of finishing everything by 11/30.
I am finding her organizational system -- if it can be called that -- excruciating, but she seems to have things under control. Thank goodness her school has a good college counselor with the nagging instincts of a sheepdog -- plus she keeps a two-way email dialogue going with the 'rents that really helps me keep the duct tape firmly in place. mostly.

Humingbird, I have an internet friend who's son went to Indiana on a full schoarship by doing those extra essays, etc. I'd say it is worth it.

Oh, and my procrastinator was a long labor that started on in the wee hours of the due date but finished the next day, so much for that theory!
Suddenly, it's all crystal-clear for me, Consolation. I was induced!

| Thanks, all, for sharing your s's and d's procrastination stories. Makes me a little less likely to kill my kid! He is still working on one big scholarship application (Due 12/1) and 2 more after that, but since he has one acceptance under his belt, has decided to blow off one last college app b/c it has too many essays (everything else is done). His choice. While it is painful at times to ride along on his uniuqe way of doing things, in the end he seems to ge getting them done. So I guess I can chill a bit.

Is anyone else officially going crazy waiting?
As far as I can tell, my S is blessedly unaware that some people are getting early writes. None of his friends seem to have gotten one.
I'm going to have to stop reading That Other Board. It's torture.

Kinda reminds you of being pregnant, doesn't it? (Well, it did me!) You can't forget about it for a day. But looking back a year later, you forget all the angst, at least until reminded of it, and it's all good.
Just remember - this, too, shall pass.

The Presidential Scholar list just came out. S made it to the Semifinalist level, which was great, but wasn't one of the two finalists in our state. Oh well. At least he doesn't have to wrote another bio and decide whether he wants to shake hands with You Know Who.

Consolation, yes, congrats to your son for reach the semi-finalist status!
My son has received a letter from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announcing that he is a college-sponsored national merit scholar. $1000 per year, that's not bad, should help paying for the books and any other extras.

Great! My S did not receive one of the NMS scholarships, and I don't think his school of choice sponsors them. But we ought to check into it before any more time passes, I suppose.

| Forgot to update everyone here-- In addition to the full tuition scholarship, DS is getting $2K/yr for a school-sponsored NMF scholarship. With older s graduating a few weks ago (hard to believe) and essentially off the payroll, we will be breathing a financial sigh of relief around here! | My son is graduating tomorrow. I can't believe this class of 2008 is done! Yesterday, award ceremony, today rehearsal and picnic at the beach. For him, life is good! In the meantime, little sister is studying hard for her finals!
