Just when I'm happily in the rhythm of D being in undergrad, she's beginning to cast her eyes towards grad/law schools. We're planning on visiting her at her undergrad college during the Fall of her senior year and she wants to make sure that the visit doesn't conflict with test dates.
I think I've got the LSAT covered...late September looks to be the optimal one for her.
The GRE's appear to have many many many self-scheduled take-it-on-the-computer testing dates...is this correct or am I overlooking something?
And for a program that has a 12/1 application deadline, would a mid-November GRE test date make sense?

Wow, Capt. --- how time has flown! It seems like only yesterday your D. was taking the SATs. Unbelievable!
Unfortunately, I have zero advice to give you about the GRE's, but please share what you find so others can benefit from the information!
Best of luck to your D. How is her internship going?

Hi, Carolyn. I'd sent you an e-mail about 5-6 weeks ago but never heard back, assumed you were up to your eyebrows with Amanda.
Short version: she's having a spectacular time, with both the "official" and "unofficial" learning. Funniest item imo was when she called Commodore Sparrow at work and asked her about how to cook a marinated chicken breast. Adapted quickly to taking the Metro every day, to having to be out the door by 7:15 to be at work with time to spare, etc. Has created a very positive response in her office, to the point where I won't be terribly surprised if they offer her a job, if there's an opening, for a gap year if she takes one between undergrad and law/grad school.
I'll drop you a longer e-mail in a day or two that would include stuff that would either bore most readers or that I think D would prefer to keep private.
She's flying back up to Smith for a long weekend for her birthday this month. What impresses me is not only has she budgeted for it but has set up all sorts of appointments with various profs to talk about Budapest, her senior bi-departmental thesis, the law/grad school advisor.... Of course, she'll be jazzed to see all her friends that she misses, too.
I'm getting a handle on the GRE stuff but will file a note here when I think it's more solid & complete.

Captain Jack:
My son took the GRE the last part of July. At his school, the GRE is given M-F twice a day, and once on Saturday. It is computer based. He did sign up for the test through ETS's website. The ticket arrived in a timely manner. They find out their V & Q scores that day as soon as the test is over. However, the Analytical Writing score come later in the mail. You CANNOT get this score over the net through the ETS website. Son's just came last week. He has been panicing over it. His initial applications for the most part are done, SOP is done, transcripts have been sent, LOR's are being written as we speak.
I hate to say this, but a mid-november GRE isn't going to give her much time 1. If she for some reason needs to re-take, 2. To get her Analytical score (which can or cannot be important based on her prospective field of study) 3. Son is finding that the LOR professors he's encountering are also interviewing him and want to know his GRE scores, etc.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the input.
She might be able to shade towards early November but not much earlier than that.
The double testing, LSAT/GRE, is a pain. Checked test sites for the GRE...they're 20-40 miles away from her school but they do offer a good schedule as your son's experience suggests.
Fwiw, I don't think that the scores need to be received by December 1 for the grad progam she's interested in, merely that the app is received. Fortunately, there's more than a year to investigate. Though for 4-5 months she will be out of the country, which makes understanding the timing beforehand of greater necessity.
I don't think she'll need to re-take unless she's seriously ill...she's of the group that tends to do well on standardized tests and the SAT gave her good experience on how to prep.
