I've stumbled across a site that contains tons of information for every college and university in North Carolina: http://www.cfnc.org
In addition to having links to virtual tours, campus comparisons, etc., it appears to be a "one stop shop" for online applications to all NC schools. If you click on the "online applications" tab and register with the site, you can apparently access all of the electronic apps for all of the NC schools through one portal. And it remembers the information once you input it. Sort of like an "applyweb" just for NC schools.
EDIT: I HAD THE LINK WRONG THE FIRST TIME AROUND. I'VE FIXED IT.

Lderochi, thanks for bringing up the ncmentor.org site. I also like this site for Viriginia schools: http://www.explorevirginiacolleges.com
Actually, every state has a "college mentor" site similar to the NC one. To find a particular state, go to google and search for "state name college mentor" and it should turn right up. This is a good way to get ideas for college visits if you are going to be in a particular state anyhow.
Another tip is to search for "state name independent colleges" - that almost always will connect you to the state's association of independent colleges, which frequently has in-depth profiles of private schools in the state and other useful information as well.
And, here's a really useful tool if you're going to be travelling this summer: Go the the ACT website at http://www.act.org. On the lefthand side of the homepage is a link to "College Search." Under the "Proximity" section, just enter the city or zip code
you want and you can search for institutions within a mileage range. The ACT search engine has some other nice features, too, such as allowing you to specify size range then sort by median GPAs, test scores, percentage of male/female enrollments, minority students, etc. Can be fun to doodle around with to see what turns up.

Thanks Carolyn. I've doodled around on the College Board college finder site, but never spent much time over on the ACT site.
I was amazed at all the cool stuff on the NC mentor site, and I'm happy to hear that most states have something similar. Heading off to the Virginia site right now.
