We're having to deal with requests student housing and student accommodations in the near future, since housing requests must be received no later than 5/1 & we will meet with the disabilities folks on 5/20 when they have orientation & registration in HI. Son insists he can be "just like everyone else" & doesn't want me to submit anything or work with the disabilities office or have any special requests for housing. I told him we really want him to have what he needs so he can succeed in college, but he's in deep denial. I'm sure his doctor will work with us, the disabilities office at the school is willing to work with us & housing & his school of engineering, it's just the kid who is balking. <sigh> I understand that he just wants to be "normal," but sure wish he wouldn't make things quite so difficult. Oh well, we have some time for him to mull it all over.
We're still trying to figure out what the best housing situation would be. The disabilities office suggested he live in a suite setting so he can have his own room but share a common area & share two bathrooms with 4-7 others. There is one quiet floor & the dining hall is in that dorm & it's near the school of engineering. There is another dorm that is small & known to be fairly quiet that scholarship students are eligible to live in & because it's smaller everyone gets to know one another. He isn't thrilled with that dorm because he says it's "small" from what he's heard/read.
Oh well, we shall work through this, but son is not making life easy for himself or any of us. <sigh>
