Carolyn, I'd like to make a suggestion. This is only based on a personal preference, and I hope you won't mind my intrusion.
I have come here very often and left without participating because I was not sure where to post or where to look for a discussion on recent events related to college admissions. I do like the nice set of selections, but I do not see a catch-all offering, except for this one.
Also, after reading the blog entries, I often refrain to post a comment because the format is simply not very conducive to a ... discussion.
This is what I would love to see. Use this sub-forum or create a new one and copy the blog entries for the purpose of discussions. Also, this sub forum would be a great place for posters to recommend possible blog entries.
Lastly, I would move this section on the VERY TOP of the forums.

I find if I click on the Recent link before I start reading messages, it's much easier to find the newer discussions since they are listed with the most recent replies first, in descending order.

I always click on recent too. That allows me to see what the newest postings are I guess I think there are discussions going on especially in the individual college section.

I use recent also, but I sometimes feel like I missed something. I don't check as often as I used to, maybe I am getting over the college addiction.
Xiggi please contribute when you can. You have so much to offer. Can't believe you and son are going into third year of college.

Thanks for the suggestion Xiggi. It is actually one I have already considered. However, there are only 24 hours in the day and I am running at maximum capacity as it is, so things don't always get done in a timely manner.
In the future, I do plan to make some changes and bring both the blog and this discussion forum under one roof, and perhaps then it will be easier to recopy blog entries here. In the meantime, I will keep trying to post links whenever time allows.
Thanks again for a great idea.
Carolyn
(P.S., for the future, the best place for suggestions is the section reserved for suggestions at the top of the page. I do check there first every morning! I'll move this up there now.)

Lynda, yes it is indeed amazing that we are about to be juniors. Heck, the term Junior has a nice ring to it.
Carolyn, I told you I did not know WHERE to post. I am happy to read that you did not think was suggestion was off the wall.

Actually, I like this site just as it is, I know that the other site CC has a lot of discussions and many like it that way. I do have my 'favorite' list set up so that I can see the most recent entries.
However, it is your site Carolyn, just thought I would tell you that it is pretty good as is IMO

What do you mean by your "favorite" list? I know how to check recent posts (by clicking the Recent tab) but are you saying that there's a way to only check certain threads?

On my home page - I have a favorites category where I can reach different sites by hitting on their icon. When I hit carolyn's site - I have the site most recent entries displayed so I can easily see what (if anything has been posted since my last visit.

I'm just checking back in after two weeks spent catching up after two weeks vacation...1:1 seems to be about what's required these days.
I haven't nailed down exactly why this is so but I find...at least the way I access AdmissionsAdvice...that I have a harder time getting an overview of where the latest conversations are than I do with some other boards. I'm sure that I've missed things of interest and even possibly things I would have been helpful about.
On another new board that I'm on (writing related, not college related), I can click a "View All Posts Since Your Last Visit" button after I log in and it displays the specific topics with such new posts and then I can pick & choose accordingly.
Just my two cents. And maybe there's some way to use this board better in a way than I've been doing.
Btw, Carolyn, it sounds as if you're up to your follicles with work, I dropped you an e-mail about a week back. From my, ah, "True Name" account.

I didn't even know about the "Recent" thing . I actually would suggest consolidating the number of sub-groups myself. But it isn't per se the software design here, or the "information architecture" as we call it, it's Carolyn's nice self and all her knowledge that draws me .
I am hoping that the Recent function will help me too. Now, is there any way that the site can recognize cookies etc. so I login automatically when I click the URL?

Alumother -
I don't have to log in each time - the site recognizes me with a cookie as long as I don't log out when I leave.

Capt. Jack Sparrow-The view all new posts is a feature I use on another site too (a scrapbooking site). This is a great feature and is a way for me to keep up. It lists all of the threads that have had posts since the last time I was on the site.

Another reason for using recent is then you can go directly to the last page or whatever the last page was you read if you know it.
