I know this is quite the dream, but...  So many of us have posted Intro threads that many of the early ones have fallen off the first page, and will so go onto the 3rd and 20th and 872nd page.  ;)

WHAT IF.... there were some way, in our profile, to provide an easy way to link back to our original Intro thread? Is there a field in the Profile that could be made available or encouraged to be used as a link to the Intro thread? The Intro forum, as it sits, is interesting, but you kind of have to look hard to find out whether someone has posted an Intro or not.  We could make it a practice to link to our Intro threads in our "Homepage" entry, but what if we have our own homepage that we want to offer also?

Just thinking "out loud"....  I'm going to my Profile now to see if I can figure out how to put a link there, so if someone clicks on my name on a post, they have the option of visiting my Intro.

Hmm.... I can put the link into my "Interests" line, but then
(a) it only shows up when you click on the "View My Profile" option under my username
(b) it doesn't show up as a live link, you'd have to copy/paste it into a browser window.

(still experimenting....)

Oooooohkay, I've put the Intro link into the "Visit Homepage" field, and stuck my weblog URL into my "Interests" field inside my Profile.  That'll work for now, but it would be cooler if there was another field, like "Visit Homepage", where we could put our intro links. It nobody else decides on this practice, I'll probably change it back to my weblog in a couple days. Fun to think about, though!

Hi mootmom-

This is jym626 from the "other" board. I was sort of hoping that someone would be willing to put together a summary list of all the intros- with our current screenname, our screenname from the "other" board (if applicable) and a brief one-line synopsis of our intro. I envisioned this being like the long list of acceptances from the "other" board. Then (if this forum works in a similar fashion to the other) we can copy the list and add to it as we go along, and Carolyn can save it here somewhere so we can refer to it. Anyone  out there with a lot of free time on your hands willing to get this list started??? Puleez??? I am having a tough time figuring out who is who. Thanks in advance, oh kind soul, whoever you are....:D

Mootmom,

You read my mind - I was wondering how we'd keep track of the intro's after a while. I assume we will keep adding new members. Ideally, what I would like to do is eventually re-do my website so that this board is a direct part of it. We could then have pages with links and additional information. That is long range planning though -- so I will see if there is a way to do something similar within the confines of the WowBB format. I guess I need to start making a list of all that needs to be done. I really appreciate the suggestions though!

It is fairly easy if everyone complies with Carolyn's request to make their first post an Intro (and I know that some already haven't).  First click on the name of the person whose intro you want to find.  That brings up a box from which you can select "View Profile."  Click on that, then on the tab that says "Posts."  work your way back to their very first post, and there it should be.  Well, maybe not so easy after all, but certainly not so hard either.

What if the Intro thread were put into directory format with alphabetical tabs, like the "Members" list.  Or, perhaps an "Intro" column could be added to the members list, with links.

I don't know if this will help, but I have put my intro address in as my homepage.  So if you click on my id (westkymom) and then click on my homepage, you can click on the link and it takes you to my intro.  I don't know if that would work for you, Carolyn, since your homepage link goes to a pretty important place!

But, if posters aren't using the homepage field, they could put their intro link in that field.  Just a thought....

You can sort Intros alphabetically by user name. Just click on the "Started By" header.

This board has lots of nice convenience features. Very nice choice, Carolyn. One question, though: are you paying for use of the mywowbb software?

CollegeHound, first, thank you for all of your help. I so appreciate it. I did look at several "Free" versions based on the php technology but didn't like that they all required pop up ads. So, yes, this is something I am paying for, and, so far it has been worth it as the tech support has been responsive and the administrator controls (at least those I've learned/experimented with so far) have been great and easy to use.

Again, I do appreciate your help -- thank you.
