some updates, nothing major like a college acceptance announcement, but just some quick things...
i applied to washington college in chestertown, md and elizabethtown college in pa through their priority apps. i like washington's campus from what i have seen via pictures and they have a really strong creative writing deptarment, also they give out 10,000 merit scholarship for NHS members which I am. elizabethtown seems to have a extremely nice campus via the virtual tour, a solid rep in pa.
in other news, my high school is now in the top 5% of high schools in the nation according the u.s. news. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. i really dislike u.s. news and rankings. ew. it feeds the admission frenzy, and now they are doing it for high schools. yuck. the school that my high school always gets mixed up with is ranked number 7 and its in new jersey. ha. i thought that was a little funny.
this week was not a good week in general. last night, i started to feel really anxious about drew university's decision. it also did not help that on a messageboard from CC, i asked when we would found out decisions from the priority app and one responded.. i called and they send they would make a decision within three to four weeks when completed app submitted. UGH. not good for my nerves considering Drew opened my file for review OCTOBER 25TH!!!!!!!! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I am so sick of colleges "playing games" with my head. My friend said it perfectly today, "unrequited love" UGH. I feel like breaking up with Drew. Haha.
But in all seriousness, first, I had to deal with Ursinus and their six week response which should have been four. Now this. Now, my number one school. I emailed twice to admissions when decisions would be released for me. No response. I find it frustrating. I know I am not the only applicant BUT come on!
UGH, tired from this exhausting week from school and anxiety from all of this.
Hope all is well! I'll keep everyone updated!

GOOD NEWS!
ACCEPTED AT ALLEGHENY!!! I even will be receiving a Trustee Scholarship! My guidance counselor told me I would get rejected here probably because of my low sat scores. I guess I didn't!
In more news, I called Drew U. this morning during one of my free periods and I will be receiving a letter this week.
WOOOO! Anyway, I really love Allegheny. I am so happy I have this choice. I cannot wait to visit!

So, Washington College officially accepted me. I got the letter and a 11,500 scholarship. I think it is going to be out though on my list already. I prefer Knox, Allegheny, and Ursinus more right now- and Knox offered a 14,000 scholarship, less expensive than Washington, and has a teriffic creative writing program that is a major, rather than a minor. But I still feel Washington is a great school and I am happy I was offered an acceptance and a scholarship.
More good news... ALLEGHENY offered me 12,500 Trustee Scholarship! I love how I get this large of a scholarship as my guidance counselor told me in September I would get rejected. Haha. Anyway, the more I read about Allegheny, the more I really like it.
Ah, so I cannot emphasize enough how important though this week is. I am suppose to find out about Drew "very soon". (called admissions on wednesday because i am crazy) I am so sick of admissions using that word, "soon." It would be nice for specifics, I am laying down myself to see if you either reject, accept, or defer me. Ugh. I find out about Bard via snail mail, by December 21st. I already put on instant upbeat songs on my ipod to walk home from school just in case the news is unfavorable. If it is, at least I have five stellar acceptance letters and 3 gigantic scholarship offers.
Hope all is well with everyone!!!!!!

Onceinvincible, that (above) is what you need to focus on. Listen to the upbeat music and just look back on all those acceptances and scholarship money! Good luck!

Just chiming in on the congrats front, Once!
I have no idea what kind of experience, etc. your GC has but I had a feeling all along that you would do very well on the college application front if your apps showed even a smidgen of the wit, enthusiasm and passion that your posts here have shown!!!
I am so happy for you!!!
Now fingers crossed for Drew and Bard but no matter what the news is there, things are SO good for you now! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Once!
I love your attitude, love what your list says about you, love that you were smart and strong enough to ignore your GC. Sounds like the schools feel the same, rewarding you not only with acceptances but gobs of money!

limner, carolyn, hummingbird, hijinksandsue, outwest, and canadian- thanks for the kind words. today was rough.... no mail at all from drew nor bard. this makes me nervous, frustrated, and outright stressed. i am trying to be calm but as cliche as this sounds, this is my future. each different college one is accepted to is a path one could take- i have five distinct paths i could choose at the moment.
i am nervous for drew university because it truly is a place where i feel so comfortable, so at home. i could see myself there in the next four years. i have even defended the school from classmates who told me they hated it while visiting, told me it was a waste of money. i have this odd attachment to a place where i spent the most- two hours there. it is very weird how strong connections are to things we only encounter for a little. not getting any message from drew frustrates me because i KNOW they were sent. my close friend in maine has a friend who applied to drew and found out yesterday. SHE IS IN MAINE. i am in NEW JERSEY. drew is in NEW JERSEY. how would someone in maine find out before someone in new jersey. it does not make any sense.
something that did come in the mail was an assignment i did way back at kenyon. we all had to write ourselves words of advice and our workshop leader would send it to us around the holidays. it is so weird how absolutely true my advice is right now. here is what i wrote in my postcard/letter thing. it is pretty generic advice but highlights my situation:
j -
it's december now. you are most likely scared. college is looming. you are going numb to all the pressure, numb to the fact you are going to be eighteen, numb to the pen that's beside you, numb to your friends, numb to north bergen, numb to your parents. i want to tell you to hang in there. j- you are strong. you are intelligent. college will accept you. you are a great writer. you must have some belief because who else will. it's december and you probably just got home from school, let your bag drop. i hope you had a good day. it's december and you find that senior year is more than test scores and homework. this is the last time you will ever be surrounded by these people- embrace because you cannot stand alone. love because everyone needs to. forgive because it's better for the mind. i want you to hang in there. you will be fine. everything will be alright.
-j
HA. so corny, but all of the above is true. i need to breath. i hope everyone out there has a nice holiday. i will keep everyone posted of any news. g'night. sorry for the angst, it surrounds us teens.

Once-I-315"
Drew is located in Madison (The Rose City). Just down the street from Drew there is a restaurant where I asked my wife to marry me. So there is something very positive about Madison, Roses and Drew. Have attended some of the plays at the Shakespere Festival at Drew.
Good Luck

i lost my patience with both bard and drew. as of right now, i could care less about either of them. seriously. i do not understand how SMALL, LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES cannot handle their acceptance/rejection/deferral letters in an orderly fashion. no mail at all from either of the colleges. no college mail at all. they tell each applicant how "personal" they make this experience for each applicant. HA.
someone on CC said they got an email about their acceptance into drew.. how lovely that drew does not email their whole entire applicant pool. sure, they can send me the same, repetitive email about their academics and internship opportunities which i have probably read at least a dozen times, but they cannot promptly deliver their "PRIORITY" applicants a decision, all of their applicants rather than the two i know of ... in maine and california. thanks for notifying the new jersey applicants, thanks. and i called drew right when the mail or lack thereof, sorry they are out for the HOLIDAYS!
ugh, i am coming off as a completely horrible person but colleges have no idea the pressure, the hype, the overall life-changing aspect a college decision is. they have no idea. i really wish they would get a clue.
sorry for the rant. happy holidays to all!

Hi Once,
I can well understand your frustration.
However, what the admissions office is like does not necessarily reflect anything about what your experience will be like as a student at that college. So hang in there. At the same time, you have been accepted with good money at some terrific schools, so it really doesn't matter if you tell these to buzz off!
