It's always good to have someone take a look at your essay before you send it; just be cautious about who you choose to do so.
And, I have no fear at all that you will be able to figure everything out. There is still plenty of time. It may help you to know that a lot of seniors change their minds and revise their lists between now and January. You are doing a great job with everything -- just don't let panic make your choices for you.

so some updates, not major. good news first. i had an english teacher i am familiar with and trust read my essay and she told me she really liked it and felt it was "different" from all of those other "the most significant event for me is..." and said it was very well written and showcased another side of me. so thats good. school is going well enough. we took the big 08 picture out of the little lawn in front of the school. i really am a senior.
so some eh news... talked to guidance counselor today. i dont know. i wish i had a choice of who could guidance me honestly. i had a free first period. i go into his office and was like "hi, i would like to talk about my college plans." and he s like "ok" and im like " i have a list" and hes like... " ok." nothing else. so i give him the list, he looks at it, rambles about how the next step is the common app. doesnt give me suggestions. doesnt ask me what i am going to major in until finally he did after i told him about my sat scores "how come you did so bad" (how am i suppose to respond? um, i guess i am just not that knowledgeable in triangles, reading passages, and grammar misusage?) he told me i have a nice list of schools, good mix of private and public. said he was 99 percent sure i would get into my two safeties, ramapo and rowan. that was good to hear. he also said i would have very good chance at drew, basicially in, told me how other kids went to drew in previous years. he wasnt familiar with wheaton college. told me one of my biggest obstacles to get in is allegheny. i was a little thrown off. i knew allegheny would not be easy, but i didnt think he would tell me it would be more difficult than muhlenberg. maybe i am just looking at this weird. yeah, so here is my final list. finally.
allegheny, drew, dickinson (ea), knox (priority), ursinus (priority/ea), muhlenberg, rowan, ramapo (ea), wheaton, goucher (ea)
i asked my mom two weeks ago to visit allegheny, so i dont know when thats happening but it will be fun. i am excited about that school.

some updates, SAT was today at lovely 8:00 am, which started late. During half way through the test, the fire alarm went off, so we had a fire drill or something, whatever. It was around 10 ish, everyone had to go outside. It was very nervewracking. Anyway, writing section was solid for me, essay good. Math was OK. Verbal was tougher than I thought but we'll see how everything goes.
I applied to Ursinus College October 1st. Today, I received a package from their financial aid office and it started off ... Dear John: I was pleased to learn of your application for admission to Ursinus... and then they told me how I should consider applying for financial aid and when all the paperwork is due and if my parents would like to discuss our financial situation, to contact the director of student financial aid services, to arrange an appointment with a counselor.. (Here's the kicker! Last sentence!) We are here to help make Ursinus education available to all admitted students.
Does this mean I will receiving an admission decision AKA acceptance letter soon? All my paperwork was sent out and I don't know what to think of this?! Anyway, hope all is well with everyone. Or maybe this was a very general, we are committed to helping each admitted student blah blah blah statement/fact.
Ugh. Lol.

Knox's library has a reading room dedicated to John Houston Finley (a former editor of the New York Times in the early 1900rds).
Knox is a good school and a fine start, Congrads.

Congratulations, Invincible! You're going to college no matter what!
Knox is a wonderful college with great teachers, laid back students, and a very friendly atmosphere. The little town of Galesburg is very comfortable and friendly as well. I really think you'd like it, and, if you haven't visited, I hope you get a chance to -- and I am sure other happy news is heading your way soon as well!
In answer to your question about Ursinus (sorry I didn't see it until just now), many colleges send these letters about financial aid after they've received your application. Don't read too much into them, although you certainly have a good shot at Ursinus as well.

thanks jocelynDAD, consolation, and carolyn!
i am extremely happy i was accepted at knox! i was completely shocked by the scholarship though, i really didn't think i would get that high of an amount, even any scholarship for that matter. well, i love good surprises and that was a very nice one. i am nervous about ursinus- i applied way back in Oct 1st and they promise a 4 week decision... its been past four weeks and im just a little nervous. i contacted admissions twice about it and all i got was "soon" which really does not help the nerves.
school is going well, report cards are next week. i did well in all my classes this semester. newspaper was stressful this marking period but it is getting better. updates on where i am applying: yep, i took that leap of faith and applied to bard early action, i applied completely on gut feeling- when i was sick, i composed a 12 page, hand binded lit mag with all my work. haha, i love when im sick, i decide to start ambituous projects. anyway, whatever the outcome with that application, i know i tried my best. in other news, drew university, my number one school, the application is already sent out, they even cleared my file for review Oct 20something. i find out december 15 about their decision, maybe even sooner if they already cleared out my file for review? nov 15- i have to submit my application for ramapo- i just need to edit one essay and i am good to go.
ah, i can finally breath and say proudly, " I am going to college next year." That is such an amazing feeling.
Hope all is well!

And not just going to college, but to a GREAT college. Glad to hear that you are doing well. Don't sweat the lack of news from Ursinus. My belief is that when it comes to college admissions, what is meant to be is exactly what will happen. Good luck, and do keep us up to date on your admissions news. There is more to come, I am certain.

I must admit, I fell in love with the Knox College library. It just oozes history. And, it's a special treat when, during the admissions tour, you get to sit in the "Lincoln Chair" - a chair that Lincoln used during the Lincoln-Douglas debate at Knox. I think that is really a very nice thing about Knox - they have a strong sense of their history, and a keen eye on their future.

thanks northeastmom!
good news was sent today... I am accepted at Ursinus College! Their acceptance letter was extremely nice yet deceiving.. small envelopes i am not a big fan of, but I got a handwritten comment about my essay "great essay. a beautiful piece of writing!"
sifndskjfnsdjkfnsdjkfnsdjkfnsdjkfn. the essay comment made my day! i slaved over my essay for about two months, editing and re-editing. i had written six different essays until i finally got to one i liked.. and then edited it until i couldn't anymore!
ahh, i am doing much better in this college admissions process than i thought! hopefully more good news to come! i'll keep you guys posted!

Congratulations! I am very impressed that someone took the time to pay you a personal compliment on your essay. How wonderful have that validation for the hard work you did. I don't know much about Ursinus (though I remember kids from my Md. high school went there), but that little personal touch tells you something very positive about the atmosphere and attitudes there.

That is actually a GREAT report card with all the other stuff you've had to do with college applications and senior year EC commitments.

ahh, some updates.
i found out i am accepted at one of my public safety schools... richard stockton college of new jersey. its nice to be accepted but idk, the BIG admission decision will be on December 15 for Drew University. It is by far my number one school! EEK.
anyway, my GPA improved by a lot.. i now have a 4.14 out of a 4.5! My senior year GPA is a suprisingly high 4.34 out of 4.5. whoa. I never had that high of a GPA since freshman year.
so that is what i am at so far. three for three with acceptances! woo.
