My 18th birthday was epic. I went into NYC with my best friend and saw an incredible concert. Ahhhh, I cannot explain how amazing it was.
ALSO, I went to NJIT for a website competition. Pretty intense. My team didn't place but it was quite interesting. The campus is sort of bleak. They do have a Taco Bell Express in their cafeteria which I thought was pretty cool. And I also got accepted at Drew University (!!!) with a 12,000 Presidential Scholarship. We'll see. I am ten for ten!

See, Drew came through! Congratulations on a stellar set of acceptances, Once! I know we are all waiting anxiously for your final decision....but don't rush. You'll know when the choice feels right.
And, as a late 18th birthday gift, I'm naming you the Admissions Advice Forum for the day!

So I am officially done from hearing from schools. I heard from my last school today, my absolute shot in the dark, for fun application - Bard. Waitlisted! I am very happy about that for no apparent reason. At least I wasn't rejected! I never hear of Bard WLed a lot of people, and anyway with a 26 percent acceptance rate, I think getting on the WL was pretty cool. Haha. They also had the nicest WL letter I think possible!
Here it is:
Dear (fill in the blank)
On behalf of the Admissions Committee, I am pleased to be able to offer you a place on our wait list. We recognize the time and effort you devoted to both the college search and your application.
You are among a small group of qualified candidates for whom, at this point, we simply do not have room. We hope to be able to review our active wait list before May 1st but it is likely that the review process will continue into the summer. Typically 100 candiates remain on the wait list; in recent years we have been able to offer fifteen percent of these students.
We know you will have choices. If you decide to attend another college or university, we genuinely thank you for your interest in Bard and send you every good wish for the future.
Haha, wasn't that nice?! Two of my other classmates applied and I think they are going to get in - one is a URM who has very strong writing skills and is ranked nationally for judo. the other is a colorblind artist with also strong writing skills. I don't care though! I am happy to have come out of this process unscathed.
Anyway, I am really sure I will be headed to Drew University for Fall 2008! I am just waiting on the financial aid package to see if I can logically afford it. If the financial aid letter is unfavorable, I decided I will have to have a meeting with a financial aid officer from Drew and explain the situation. If I cannot afford Drew: it is either Allegheny, Ursinus, Ramapo, and perhaps College of Wooster. Wooster upped my scholarship from 13,250 to 15,500 two weeks ago.
So, I hope all is well with everyone!

Bard is a class act. My son was accepted there, and the letter came with a sheet of personalized address labels for him to use while at Bard. He decided not to go, and it was with a pang that I threw those labels away.
You have such great choices to pick from -- I hope the FA goes well with Drew, but you can hardly go wrong with the others.

| Once, I am keeping my fingers crossed about the FA at Drew, because I know it has been at the top of your list for a long time. Let us know when you decide.

hey carolyn -
i am visiting drew on their spring saturday in two weeks... if i still like it then, i am going to fill out the acceptance card. my parents decided even if its a little beyond what we can pay, i can take out the necessary loans and such. i emailed bard today to tell them to not hold a place for me on their active waiting list. i just loss interest after awhile which was weird. um, yeah, but i emailed my admission counselor to find out when i will receive my fa package... everyone else has already gotten their package this week. i still have not gotten mine. eh. hope all is well with everyone.

I actually made a decision (I am just as shocked as you are right now)
I will be attending Drew University for Fall 2008! My mom confirmed my admission today on the telephone. I also have a hoodie and the car decal sticker. I know, very lame.
Hope all is well with everyone and thank you so much for everyone who has been with me through this entire process. I could not have done it without all of your support and understanding.

| That is wonderful! I know this has been an eventful journey for you but I have been impressed by your maturity and willingness to look at many different options. The daughter of a good friend of mine is graduating from Drew this spring and she has had a wonderful experience there. Good luck to you!

random, miscellaneous good news. i won 3rd place in the willamette writers kate herzog scholarship contest. i get a $250 dollar scholarship and "each winner will be invited to attend the Willamette Writers Conference on August 1-3rd, in Portland. That includes 1 banquet ticket to an awards banquet, and one consult with an agent, editor or film producer. Winners will be invited to an awards banquet at the annual Willamette Writers conference August 2nd, 2008. The nominating teacher will also be invited to attend the awards banquet. Scholarships do not include travel expenses or accommodations at the conference. " so haha, good day.
i already got my drew email address. it is pretty sweet.

| Once, even though it would cost you more than the $250 to go, it is still an honor, so congratulations!
