I have already applied to Harvard, Yale, Bowdoin (ED 2), Colby, Reed, U. of Richmond, Macalester, Brandeis, Whitman, Connecticut.
I am undecided about my major. I am interested in Liberal Arts and Science Programs. The majors I am more likely to pursue are International Relations, Biology (But I am still not sure)
Must have's in colleges: Substantial Financial Aid, laid-back student body....
Financial Aid is very important. I can only pay around $ 1800-2200 for my studies per year. However, I can manage to pay about 6-7 k for safeties (I'll live off campus from my sophomore (or even freshman if possible) year...so the cost will be manageable)
I don't mind college's location and its student body size. However, I'd prefer colleges where professors can give time for the undergrads)...
Please suggest me some colleges (matches more prefered) whose deadlines have not passed. I'd love to get name of some safeties (min. full tuition according to my stat profile.....full tuition + others (like r & b or booksor fee) would be just gr8)

Welcome! You have a very interesting background. Personally, I have no idea at all how your preparation would be viewed by colleges in comparison to that of other international candidates.
I would comment, though, that neither Harvard nor Yale is known for "laid back students"!

Hello Brightday, and welcome!
Willamette U in Oregon, Clark U in MA, and Dickinson in Pennsylvania have good International Studies and sciences, and I think your stats probably fit their profiles. I think there are quite a few international students at Dickinson. Students on the west coast tend to be more laid back. At Clark, if you graduate with an acceptable GPA, you get a fifth year MA for free.

Yeah! consolation. Harvard and Yale are just exception to my list. I sincerely believe that if I am admitted to LACs (if they give me good financial aid), I'd prefer them to these Ivies. U must be laughing over me. See! he is hoping t get into Harvards and other LACs too.....Can't blame a guy for being hopeful....haha

Thanks for your suggestoins! Canadian. Yes, these are schools with good international studies and sciences program. They would have been good matches if I could pay around 10000-12000 peryear. I think Dickinson is a good match though, both academically and financially. The matter is that Dicksion is one of the schools In US where almost all of the Nepali students send their application. I think I'll add to that number too...haha

That's funny, Brightday, I guess my intuition was good!
Doesn't hurt to try the other schools and see if they will give financial aid.

Bowdoin (ED 2)
Have you read that Bowdoin just eliminated loans for all students? I'm not entirely sure if it applies to international students, but it would certainly be worth finding out.

I may have not have the details exact about the Clark deal, but it is something like this.......
If you do your undergraduate work there with a 3.0 every year, then you are automatically accepted into their graduate school. They will let you study there and complete a one year Master's degree at no extra cost for tuition. So you get one free year and a graduate degree.
Clark has 2 majors that relate to international studies, plus they are good in the sciences.
Another site you might want to look at is Colleges That Change Lives. They profile less well-known schools (with higher acceptance rates) that still have good academics.
Juniata is on this site, too.Last edited on Sun Jan 20th, 2008 02:02 am by Canadian

Hello, thank you all for your suggestions. I really appreciate your help.
I have been looking at the list from Doug Thompson. I'll check on the websites of the colleges and find out more. Moreover, I have already applied to about 10 colleges which feature in that list. You must be wondering what is going on. Actually, the 10 colleges I have applied to give generous financial sid to international students. So, if they find me good enough to be accepted as their student, they'll meet my need (without doubt). But, all these colleges are really good (I mean really. All of them are within top 30 of LACs and Universities), so my chances of admission is low (by default...haha)
My demand for full ride (more or less) is only aimed to these far-too-generous colleges. However, I need to apply to other colleges as well (where I really have chances to get enrolled). I mean that I am ready to pay other costs (except tuition) in the schools which do not offer such aid to international students.
So, plz kindly suggest me the schools which give full tutition 'merit' scholarships to International students (plz consider my stats too...i mean GPA and SAT/TOEFL) .
