Hi, i am a girl in Argentina who is really interested in studying in the US. I'm in senior year (finishing in Dec) and I'm starting my application process.

About me? I was born in Argentina, although my parents are Korean. I'm planning to major in Neuroscience/Psychology/or Environmental Sciences (I know, there's no relation between the first two and the last one, but it really interests me).

As I said before, I'm applying this fall, so I really need some help, since there are not so many people who know about the American system around me.

I will be around! Bye!

Welcome! I don't know much about international admissions, but there are people on this board who do, who will be happy to help.

About Neuroscience & Environmental Sciences - don't be too sure that there's little in common! We're finding out more and more how much the enviroment and environmental factors affect the human nervous system. At a school that allows flexibility in majors/curriculum, it could be a great combination!

Welcome Arg!  This is a great place to ask questions, and I'm happy to see you! Do you have some specific schools in mind already?

Welcome arg,

Would you tell us a little more about yourself--like your grade point average, how you did on the SAT if you took it, and the kinds of interests you have? Also, what are you looking for in a school--size, location, financial aid, stuff like that. This will help us to give you some ideas about schools you might like.

You have some advantages going for you in that schools like to have international students and racial diversity--and obviously you are bi (or tri?) lingual.

We are Canadian (though dual citizens with the US) and my son is looking for schools with with good environmental science programs, so I may be of some help to you. I also have noticed that lots of the schools with ES have neuroscience and they all have psychology, so you will have lots of good choices.

Hi!

Profile:

SAT score: 2000 / TOEFL: 257 (I think I will take it again) / Highest Grade Point Average (last three years), but it is not high / Extracurricular: orchestra, choir, piano, model un, math olympics, debate, school volleyball team (captain), school play. / Volunteering in church: vacational bible study and saturday school for the needy / Community service in a geriatric (don't know if that's the english word) / Participated in "Young Writers" writing competition (UK) and had a short story published in 9th grade

What I'm looking for:

A lot of interaction between cultures / professors can be contacted by students after class / research available for undergraduate students / open-minded and different people, student activism (I come from a private school where almost everyone follows the same stereotype and thinks in the same way) / course or minor in Bioethics would be great / near a city or town / California or East Coast, since I've got family in both, is prefered, but that factor is not decisive. / interesting in doing extracurriculars in college too maybe related to arts and music

I do have US permanent residency; financial aid is not a problem, not really needed(but it is welcomed!)

Thank you for answering :)

Hi arg,

Here are some of the schools my son is looking at, all of which have Environmental programs. All of them are small liberal arts colleges with small classes and lots of interaction with professors and research opportunities, but most of them are in small towns or small cities.

Colorado College CO
Whitman WA
UPS WA
Willamette OR
L & C OR
Trinity U TX
Colby ME
Bates ME
Allegheny PA
Dickinson PA
Lafayette PA

In CA (LA area) you might like Occidental or the Claremont colleges. Also look at the UC and Cal State schools if you want to try a larger school.

Another school that has a good environmental program and is not too hard to get into is Clark U in MA. Also Hobart & Smith in NY.

Good luck. We will be interested to hear what you find out. As you tell us what you like and don't like, we can be of more service in guiding you to other schools that might be a good fit.
