Just wanted to note that my D had an interview that we were dreading because she is very quiet and barely talks in class. the interviewer was so nice. I was in the other room but could hear some of it.  He went to great effort to put her at ease and I hear my D laugh.  I have no idea what the interviewer thought of her but at least he didn't make her feel like she bombed the interview so this was good news. And there were no trick questions. It was more just like a nice chat with someone. I wonder if it helped that the interviewer graduated in the 50's. I did have my D wear a skirt which she hated.

Glad it went well for your daughter.  A lot of kids (and parents) envision admissions people as being out to "trick" them. After meeting hundreds of admissions people, 99% are very nice people and they tend to really, really like kids. Otherwise, they'd have gotten out of this business long ago. Most interviewers are also looking for reasons to LIKE kids, not dislike them.

arrow,

It was lovely to hear that the interview went well.  I imagine future interviews will be less stressful now.

You want to talk interview stress: the Yale alumni interviewer is coming to OUR HOUSE on Saturday morning!!

I told my S he has to help me clean. :)

Now I'm strategizing: should I let the chickens out before he comes, or will he be turned off if they all come to check out whether he has brought treats when he gets out of his car. How will he feel about chicken poop in the driveway? I believe he's an elderly gentleman: will he fall down and hurt himself climbing over the Rube-Goldberg chicken barrier on the porch?

Should I lock Crazy Sally, the dog, in the bedroom, since she got skunked a couple weeks ago and still smells if she sticks her head into your lap to be petted?

And what about Miss Kitty? Will she choose that very moment to hork up what seems to be her daily hairball?

And what about my husband? He telecommutes, so he's inclined to roam around the house in sweats and flip-flops. Not to mention the fact that he's following some bizarre diet he read about at his health club that involves lengthy food preparation every morning. Shoudl I get him up early to make sure he's finished and out of the way? Should I lock him in his office?

:D

Consolation -- I am in hysterics over the image of treat-demanding chickens rushing an elderly alumni interviewer. How could he find them less than endearing?  I say your son is an auto-admit!

Consolation, Your post is very funny! I think that I would have the whole mob, kit and caboodle, in lock down! Then again, if something wild and crazy happens it will be a memorable interview. Hey, at least the interviewer will have a better picture of your son's home life anyway. Wishing your son the best of luck on his interview!

I say - keep the chickens out. It shows an unconventional and interesting household. Have your son be on the ready to run interference. It wil be a great ice breaker!

Lock away the husband, for sure! Take the dog for a walk during the interview, cause it might be better if you are not around.

I am torn on the kitty. I say she stays.

Too bad you cannot borrow Carolyn's piggy!

Consolation, too bad your son has already written his essay, this could have been a great essay topic "how my interviewer played with my mother's chicken during my interview and how I survived"!

Best of luck to your son! Mine is having his interview this Saturday at the local Starbucks. Not as exciting.

Consolation, are you sure that you are not Curmedgeon from the Other Board, disguised as a woman?  Too, too funny.  You country folk lead such in-ter-esting lives.

Well, his interview just finished. I locked away the dog with a fresh bone, let the chickens out, and  my husband  put on grown-up clothes for the occasion. The interviewer was very interested in the chickens, who thankfully did not rush the porch until they saw me at the door.:D Miss Kitty refrained from producing a hairball.

They talked for an hour and a half, which the interviewer told my S was unusually long, and said that that meant the conversation was very interesting.  He told us that he hopes S gets in when we were saying goodbye. Now all we can do is keep our fingers crossed!

Riviera, I hope your kid's went well also.

I didn't realize interviewers would come out to your house.  We had to visit schools to get interviews.

Thanks Consolation. The interview lasted 45 minutes and my son came back thinking it went fine. But as usual, he didn't give us much details about the conversation...
