California Carolyn- I am in awe that your D as a California child has the courage to venture so far into the unknown.
In our California high school most kids don't see beyond a few privates and the UC's and Cal States.

mom61-I just read your post to my girl and she grinned ear to ear Thank-you! Her Charter Arts school sends kids all over the country so that helps her sense of adventure too

| Congratulations to Mom61's son and CaliforniaCarolyn's daughter -- the list is really interesting. If we wrote up a guidebook using just those schools, it would be a doozie! Best wishes to all for more happy news as the new year progresses.

Hayden, congratulations!
Mom61, did you know Channel Islands has only a 25% acceptance rate? There are kids in our area sweating it out who have not heard yet. It became very popular here among students who want to be close to the beach, and liked the smaller size and the new campus. Due to their extremely strong science program, it's a favorite for many pre-health majors.

| Hayden, that's great! BU Law School is excellent - I'm a (now ancient) alum. We always figured that it would have a much better reputation if it weren't for that other school across the river.

WesternMom- I did not know that about Channel Islands. I would suspect it is due to the slow growth of the school. My son has not visited yet even though it is just 40 minutes away. I doubt it would be his first choice. It was the school he applied to that he could attend if he decided he wasn't ready to go to far from home.
Both students I know of who have gotten their acceptances had low B averages but higher then average SAT's for the Cal States.
Hayden- Congrats on making it to the next round.
All the acceptances are wonderful. I have learned about so many schools that I had never heard of. I know my son wouldn't have applied to McDaniel or Warren Wilson without all the wonderful input from these boards.
Thanks

Mom61, I'm trying to find where I got that data. I think it was from the US News site, based on # of applicants vs acceptances. I don't think their stats are listed yet on the College Board site. It has become the Cal States' worst kept secret in that everyone seems to have heard they are like a private school due to their small size. It was an initial selling point, but it may have done the job too well. Do they still give every student a single? That was also a plus for a lot of kids we know.

there is no housing guarantee for any student. I know several students from the Orange County area who have had difficulty finding housing. It is a great location and it is rapidly gaining in popularity.
this is from the school web site
"While we are opening our second phase of student housing this year, we are still expecting a large amount of interest in on-campus living. Space is still limited in, and no class or applicant group is guaranteed housing at CSUCI. The sooner you complete the housing application process, the better your chances for receiving a bed space. CaliforniaCarolyn brings up a good point about applying for housing. At some State schools housing is limited and it is sometimes in your best interest to apply for housing with a deposit even if you aren't sure you will attend.
Regarding Channel Islands. The couple of students I know who live down there got apartments freshman year. I don't know if this was by choice or not. I know more students who live at home and commute

Binx, that's wonderful! Congrats to your D (and to you!). I know it must feel great to have that acceptance under her belt (well, I don't *know* how it feels, not having felt it yet, but I can imagine.)
