-Westrnmom-cinder blocks. Carolyn told me about them and mattresses-Rises bed so that stuff can be stored underneath. Son uses 8, some kids use more. Also the mattresses were probably old when I was in college. A form topper from Costco made the bed very comfy. That info impressed my son. Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy are just down the freeway. The website does have a link to bookstore for online stuff. I bought son a hoodie and tshirt when he made his decision-you can also call them.
You might want to wait to actually check out the beds. My daughter's bed has drawers underneath it, and because it doesn't have legs but sits square on the floor, we couldn't have raised it with cinderblocks if we tried. So, I'd suggest waiting and seeing what you get first. The bedrisers are usually availabe at Target and Bed,Bath&Beyond for about $9, and, of course, you can get cinderblocks at your local Home Depot.
We got a regular old foam topper too -- it did the trick and cost less than $20. Over Christmas break, however, my daughter became enthralled with the idea of one of those down filled toppers, and bought one on sale and shipped it to herself. She slept on it for two weeks, before deciding that she didn't like how it bunched up. It has come in handy, however, the few times she's had guests sleep over in her room as a floor mattress.

We went through this with S1's UPenn ("Oh, Is Joe Paterno still coaching there?") -- My S bought us all t-shirts with the Penn logo, and in fancy "university" style script around the Logo, it said, "Not Penn State."
Now I'm doing the same thing with D's school. WE know what we mean when we say Miami, but for some reason, everybody else immediately things Florida.
LOL! Just try telling people in California, that your kid goes to some college in Wisconsin named Beloit. When she first decided, some people actually said to me, "Oh, she didn't get into any of the UC's?" And, I can't tell you how many times people have asked me and my daughter over the last year, "How did you ever find that school?" We have also both been asked more than once - I am not kidding - where Wisconsin is.

That's sad & scary!
(I'll bet 20% of the population doesn't know where my state is, either)

Oh, patsmom, it's or-REE-gin, of course. Well, at least here in Eas Tennessee.
I was listening to NPR the other morning when they announced some ghastly statistic about the percentage of Americans who knew where a particular country was located and who the vice-president is, etc. I've blocked out the details, but it was horrifying.
People have definitely never heard of Carleton--I've been assuming they know where Minnesota is.

| Oregon is pronounced "ory-gun." Slight emphasis on the "or."

AB Mom, no senioritis allowed at his school. They have all kinds of activities planned to keep them entertained and on track, plus most of their final projects are due in May so they have an easy last few weeks, which is when a lot of kids let down.
Carolyn, when my D decided on a public university a mom asked me "For goodness sakes, couldn't she at least get into Brown?"

Decision finally made tonight. No surprises. We knew he was leaning towards Pacific. It is hard to let go of Redlands. We thought it was a good fit. Most of the people I speak with have no idea where Pacific or Redlands are. Sadly we are in California so they should at least have a clue.

Mom61, Congratulations! I'm sorry our boys won't be going to college together (it would have been fun to meet), however he made an excellent choice. UOP is a beautiful campus. It's been filmed in a lot of movies if you want an idea of what the school looks like! Their selection of majors and programs is excellent.

Mom61, Congratulations to your son!! UOP is a great place, and your son can't go wrong with their art department from what I can see.
So, entomom-- we're waiting....

Hail, Hail to MICHIGAN! Who woulda thought it? Not me, or my D, way back in November when she got accepted to one of her good bet schools. She is getting some dismayed looks which is making her feel a little buyer's remorse, but she seems to be dealing with it pretty well. The money played it's part since future professional school with no debt is very tempting. But beyond that, she really felt at home in Ann Arbor. I'm very proud and happy for her.
