how wonderful to have Bates (AlanArch) and Carleton (Limner) turn to RED!!!

Scoop--enjoy the duct tape it feels great to remove it :) not painful at all (until you start paying for planefare, sheets, and assorted dorm stuff)

LOL about the t-shirts....my D wears her Valpo shirt at least once a week even if it is just around the house.  Last night she came home from school and changed into her Valpo shirt while she did her homework....she said it was motivating.

My d bought a decal at every school she visited since acceptance (and the one she didn't visit sent a decal anyway). They're decorating her room. The one she's going to is on her car. And the sweat pants and hoodie are already loved. I'll get my t-shirts, etc. at orientation!

It's much more fun once the decision has been made! Congrats, alanarch & limner!

Thanks, CalifCarolyn. I was going to PM you about the red, but I decided to be mad and impetuous and look at the site FAQ (it's amazing how far instructions can get you). :)

Congrats to WestrnMom's S! U of R sounds like a wonderful place. So, hoodie and decal ready to go?

Dear Westrnmom,

Congratulations. I am biased but it is a very caring school.  Son is home this week-May term starts Monday.  He is excited about next year. If we can answer any questions, etc just ask. Now you can start shopping for cinder blocks and sheets.

No hoodies or decals yet, but I'm going to buy some if he doesn't.  At least something to wear.

Lynda, it's such a great match we are already biased like you are!  Thank you for the offer.  He may have questions as the time gets closer.  I have two questions.  Can you buy school merchandise online, and what are the cinder blocks for?

Deposit and housing form sent last night.  So now it's semi-official!  They still aren't done figuring financial aid, and we can't accept the offers till they make them final.  H is going to call today to make sure we don't miss a deadline or something.  Would be pretty awful to choose Miami for mostly financial reasons then lose the scholarships!  D showed a remarkable lack of enthusiasm last night, -- said she is happy but just tired.

binx, glad to hear that things are moving. I think the roller coaster ride isn't over yet. S seems fine, but the frisson of anxiety is still there, which makes sense; going off to a strange new environment is anxiety-provoking.

EM, meant to comment on this earlier, but my guess is that the postmarked/received by question depends on the school. I checked Carleton's letter, and their's said "postmarked by May 1."

Limner:  I was in Carleton's admission office on May 2, (Monday) in 2005 and they were getting phone calls from anxious parents/students.  All were informed that as long as it was postmarked on May 2 (since May 1 was a Sunday) their acceptance would be ok, but no guarantees if the letter was postmarked later than May 2nd as enrollment was close to their planned number.

Congrats to Binx and D, almost there!

Thanks limner.  My D finally started moving on the questions I had for her over the weekend.  It seems like most just need postmarks and several are actually online rather than via snail mail.  Last night she sent notifications to any remaining schools that are no longer under consideration.  She thinks she has chosen a school, but like Binx, we are still working on the money end, so it's not final yet.  I hope things work out as she seems really happy with her decision.

Thanks, jDad. I had hoped he'd put the envelope in the mail, but he had questions for his Dad (that he didn't ask him last night). I'd like to get that baby mailed! No sense waiting until May 1, IMHO.

EM, glad to hear there's movement. :) Fingers crossed on the finaid front.

Still no decision yet at our house. I don't see any active decision making going on. I am assured that it is all going on in his head.

We are leaning towards Redlands. I think my son towards UOP. I keep telling my husband to not say anything. I would hate for him to go to Redlands and not be happy. Though he is the type of kid who would be happy anywhere.

I am trying to keep busy.

Westernmom- Congrats on the decision.

Mom 61-My UOP co-workers were very happy at UOP.  They did come home often (to So CA).

-Westrnmom-cinder blocks.  Carolyn told me about them and mattresses-Rises bed so that stuff can be stored underneath. Son uses 8, some kids use more. Also the mattresses were probably old when I was in college.  A form topper from Costco made the bed very comfy.  That info impressed my son.  Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy are just down the freeway.  The website does have a link to bookstore for online stuff. I bought son a hoodie and tshirt when he made his decision-you can also call them.

Gack! I'm so easy to confuse! I took a quick look at WesternMom's post about U of R and was so happy that someone else from this board was going to my D's choice. Oops! Except hers is University of Rochester, aka U of R, not University of Redlands, aka U of R! There are times that I absolutely abhor abbreviations!

What sounds so "normal" to us is often interpreted so differently by others!  We went through this with S1's UPenn ("Oh, Is Joe Paterno still coaching there?") -- My S bought us all t-shirts with the Penn logo, and in fancy "university" style script around the Logo, it said, "Not Penn State."

Now I'm doing the same thing with D's school.  WE know what we mean when we say Miami, but for some reason, everybody else immediately things Florida.

Binx, extra congratulations to your D!  Don't you think some of the lack of enthusiasm may be due to your move and all the extra things she had to do to apply after coming here from Germany?  I got tired just trying to follow some of your posts about the difficulties of getting recs, for example.

CalifCarolyn, I'm sure the variety of majors he's interested in played a factor, but right now he's undeclared.  He's very interested in a couple of their majors.  I can't wait to see what he chooses but that is definitely a duct tape subject in our house.

Lynda, thank you!  We saw all that great shopping on our visit.  Just about every store you can imagine.  I didn't think about mattress toppers, but I'm sure those could be used by most students.  Are the beds extra long twins?  I remember having to find sheets for my D and at that time no one carried them.

Chedva, I promise I didn't abbreviate!  Your U of R sounds great too.  My sister went there years ago and loved it, although I remember hearing about all the snow.  Lots and lots of snow.
