Dadinva wants the three sided coin, at least it would give fair odds to the $ factor .
D will make a well reasoned decision, but won't speculate yet as to criteria she'll use.

Somehow I missed this thread for a couple days. What amazing progress! I am truly in awe of the choices that some of your kids will be making. What a nice problem to have, but a stress of it's own. Isn't there a groundhog somewhere that makes May 1st come earlier?
(Re: 3-sided coin -- we are actually considering the hat method ourselves. Wish we had a Harry Potter one that determines fit above all else!)

Adding my D's final school: Cal, GO BEARS! (my alma mater  )
Decartes,
Wisconson was the true safety as it came early and we felt pretty confident of merit aid to make it comparable to in-state; Michigan, Emory and Amherst were matches for admissions (Amherst because she did a fly out where 75% of the participants are accepted), the Shipman and Emory scholarships were reaches although there were other scholarships at Michigan that were more matchy; Rice, WUSTL and Cal were reasonable reaches, with merit aid a reasonable reach at Rice and a higher reach at WUSTL; all of the Ivies were high reaches, though they looked more possible after the EA acceptance.
My thoughts about the very selective schools was that she was qualified, but that predicting which one might accept her was impossible, so she picked a few that most fit her criteria.

Boy I'm away for a few days while all heck breaks loose here (flu hits the 8-year old, gall bladder attack hits the DW, and I'm away on a business trip -- not fun), and now it's almost impossible to keep up with all the great news. So just a blanket congrats to everybody, AND my condolences to those who didn't get the news they wanted. I know that they'll have great choices and great experiences, but it's okay to be sad for awhile.

OK, this is the last one, I promise!
S was accepted to UVA this afternoon. It was one of his top choices along with Rice. Since Rice gave him half tuition and UVA gave him nada, and since Rice seems to be a better fit for him in many ways, he has decided to send in the deposit to Rice. As much as I'd love to see him attend UVA, I have to agree that Rice is better for him.
He got into every school he applied to, with substantial merit money from most of them. We couldn't be prouder, and I want to thank Carolyn for her sage advice and calming influence  . I've learned so much from her and from the wealth of wise parents, both here and on CC and I'm so grateful.

DS got in to Swarthmore! We weren't sure about this after getting waitlisted at Haverford and Carleton, but I had a good feeling today, and sure enough he got an admissions offer. Wow!!

One-2-Go---Welcome to NEU!!!!!! Great School and the NEU Parent Association is worth joining because there are nice discounts for your kiddo! D1 loves the school and her Boy Friend and his family are die hard Huskies! His Dad graduated from NEU as did his older bro and looks like his sister will be a freshman there next fall! My D will be in France next fall with the business dept!

Adding Union. Florid indecision rules in my household. S’s last reach school (Cornell U)--came through with a "guaranteed transfer" into the sophomore year if S takes certain courses and makes no grade lower than a B at another accredited college the freshman year. I didn’t know schools did this (and I’m not quite sure why they do), but it adds an interesting wrinkle.
