A phone call is so personal! Very nice touch. I like the idea of choices, too. They will have more when the RDs come out.

D got another letter from Allegheny - they are offering her $12,500 a year for four years. That leaves us paying "only" $24,000 per year. (Let the bidding begin.....) We'll be interested in seeing if any other schools come up to the plate. (Boy, am I mixing metaphors.)
Allegheny's web site has been down since before Christmas. Now is the time when it would be so much fun to be exploring the website, thinking of pros and cons, reading the campus newspaper, exploring the catalog.... Anybody have any idea what's happening over there? Seems like an awkward time for the website to be down, and I'm surprised that it's been down so long. Don't they have a computer department? D has been emailed links for forms and such, which work, but can't get to the website. Fortunately we've got stacks of paper info if we need phone numbers or anything.

Congrats to on all of the new acceptances, and $$ . Indeed, let the bidding begin, my thoughts exactly.
Today D was notified that she's a semifinalist for the Emory Scholar award, which also means early notification that she's accepted to Emory. I'd add it to the list, but I'm having technical difficulties with copying, so maybe someone would be kind enough to tack it on, thanks! So, now she waits for a month to see if she becomes a finalist, which means a full ride or full tuition if she attends a 4-day scholarship visit; or if she is one of 100 (non-finalist) semis that get a 2/3 tuition scholarship.

Congrats to your D, entomom! She's got some impressive choices. I'm not going to tell my D - she'd be so jealous! She couldn't talk her school into even nominating her for the Emory scholar, which pretty much wiped out her chances of even going there. She still applied - she believes in miracles.

Thanx Binx!
Here in Oregon it seems like hardly anyone has heard of Emory, no less applies there. She has a brand new GC, so she was lucky enough to find a teacher that didn't mind nominating her. Right now she's pretty impressed that Yale is sending her a t-shirt, so I'm trying to show her how many t-shirts (not to mention travel and all of the other nice things to which she has become accustomed) a merit scholarship would buy. Not sure I'm making any headway though

| WADad, if your son doesn't go to Lawrence, will you send me? Pretty please? It's been at the top of my list since my daughter's sophomore year, but I could never convince her that Wisconsin was not synonymous with "boondocks."

Adding Marist College with some $$. Getting merit money from three of son's acceptances was very unexpected and a pleasant surprise.

Mezzomom,
S is very interested in Lawrence, especially since it has a music conservatory along with a LAC. He wants to double major in math and music. He's also applying to Oberlin and other LACs, so Lawrence is kind of a safety for him. It's one that he does love, however. We'll have to see how things go in the RD round and then he'll have some decisions to make. But at least he's got one acceptance already that he and we think might be a great fit for him.

Congratulations to all on the acceptances and nice merit awards!
One2go, I just wanted to let you know that our son applied and was accepted to Northeastern and Marist with scholarships last year. I just have to tell you that I really liked both for my son. I thought Marist was a particularly good fit for him too. My son did not pick either of them, but it tough for me to say good-bye. Your son will have some difficult choices, as will others on this board! I see some difficult, but wonderful choices in the next few months.

Congrats, Wstrdog! I'm not an alum, but I hear it's a wonderful school--choices, choices, nothing like choices.

I've been away for a few weeks focusing on another of my kids. Congrats to all! What a fabulous list of schools. Also, Binx, congrats on D's acceptance at Allegheny. My son is looking at Allegheny too; who knows, maybe they'll end up at the same school (we're visiting Allegheny this spring).

Okay, drum roll--wait, let's have some trumpets and some cymbals too--oh, what the heck, call out the whole marching band! Adding S's first acceptance (start playing, band!): University of Michigan! Whoo-hoo!
