| It is a very impressive list. Later this week it should start growing much faster as EA decisions start to come out. We are quite anxious at this house!! How about everyone else?

Anxious is putting it mildly. At least on my part. Ihave not brought the subject up with S, who is the type of personality that closes up rather than vents when stressed. I relieve my feelings by reading the obsessive commentary of the crazed kids waiting to hear on the CC board, which leads me to count my blessings.
And also, this is the week every year that I work from 9 am to 11 pm every day, so that tends to take my mind off it!

I'm thrilled for all of the parents of kids with acceptances in hand We are waiting on pins and needles for the NYU ED which was kind of a Hail Mary and also Babson College EA. Any day now!!!!!!!
On another note, how do you keep yourself from ripping the envelope open before your student gets home?

I don't think you need to rip the envelope open - isn't it usually pretty obvious from the outside if it is in or out? Fat envelope: in, definitely. I have heard of a school that sends small envelopes for acceptance or denials, but to avoid unnecessary disappointment, they put a big YES on the acceptances.
MIT sends it's ea acceptances in a tube with an MIT poster.

My son plays it cool but he says that everybody at his school is getting nervous. It is going to be another tough year.

Each school is unique, thin envelopes often are acceptances, obviously a fat envelope is more likely to be an acceptance, however, often the fat envelope contains a brochure, so treat any envelope from a college (that you have applied to) as a potential acceptance, deferral or rejection.
In this game there is few if any short cuts.

| I'm so grateful my daughter took pity on me when it came to THE envelopes. I was allowed to open the envelopes but had to fax a copy of the acceptances to her at school. She would get called down to the office, receive the fax, get to squeal with her GC and principal...and usually was allowed to call me too, so we could squeal together. It certainly helped that she went to a very small high school (graduating class of 50-55); it would have been a logistical nightmare if she had gone to a larger school.

I am thrilled to be adding my son to the list. He just got early action from Caltech. He will find out about MIT on Saturday. In any case, we are now officially done with the application process, since Caltech and MIT are his top choices. He did apply to four UCs, but we no longer care!

I hope no one will mind, but I am adding one of my favorite students. This wonderful young man is Valedictorian of our senior class, is extremely low income, and has been living on his own in a rented room in a house shared with two families and three adults (all living well below the poverty line) for the past year and a half ever since his parents divorced and left him to pretty much fend for himself.
Yesterday at 12:30 p.m. he was admitted to Dartmouth with a full ride financial aid package.
He gave me the great priviledge of asking me to be there with him when he opened his decision email and had his life changed instantly. He and I both cried for several minutes. I couldn't be happier or more proud if he WAS my own son. So, please add:
Carolyn's student, Dartmouth ED (Yay!)

| AWESOME carolyn. And, that demonstrates one plus of the well endowed schools: for many kids, it can be less expensive (out of pocket) to attend a rich private than the instate public Uni, which has a lot of self-help (workstudy, loans).

| Congratulations to your student. I am filled with admiration for kids who can do so well under such circumstances. That is a child any parent should be proud of, and I am sorry it is not the case. He is lucky to have you!
