He has really tried to stay away from having a first choice school. He is applying to some more colleges and we will see what happens with that process. But for a kid who thought he would not be accepted anywhere with all the admissions frenzy going on, to get a merit scholarship was amazing and quite a boost to his confidence.

Congratulations to your son, seniorboysmom. This reinforces the reasons why it is so important to target the RIGHT schools, instead of just sending out applications in a scattershot manner hoping that one will "stick." While I do believe that every list should have some reaches on it, most kids will probably get the most offers from their solid match schools, not reach schools. (there are always exceptions to this, of course, but in general, this holds true).

Congratulations on the acceptance and the merit aid. My son did the same thing, had some favorites but said he was not selecting a first choice until he got back all the acceptances. We found out later that he did have a strong preference from the beginning but wanted to wait until he had heard from every college. He ended up turning down the school with the best merit package, though, because he liked the other school better.

Yes, this list is shaping up nicely!
Seriously, congrats to all you parents and kids, this is truly impressive, especially considering it's not even mid-December yet. Great work!
