As someone who will be putting up a post with letters in red this time next year, I've got to say that going back and reading some of your messages from months ago, and now seeing the acceptances and decisions, it's striking how well it all worked out. For example I was just reading in the Beloit forum about Canadian looking for an outdoors program for Canadianson. And now he'll be at Colorado College, with a great outdoors program. I need to stock up on duct tape and remember it all works out well in the end.
And congratulations to the AdmissionsAdvice Class of 2012!

Thank you, Fang.
Gotta say that duct tape was not my strong point, but I also had a son who was open to having some guidance.
However, after seeing a bunch of families go through this process, I totally believe "it all works out well in the end". Want some advice since I love to give it? Just do whatever you need to do to handle your own anxiety so that you are available and not projecting when Fang, Jr. needs help with his.

Yes, my S did choose Williams. I've been reluctant to try to add some color to this list, however, because I seemed to sabotage it big time last time I tried. Hope I've done this correctly.

Hi guys! I have been lurking and applauding this whole time!
Aluson will be joining his big sister this fall. I didn't post acceptances because, honest to goodness, I made a secret pact with the god of college admissions that if they would be good to my boy I would promise not to get any ego strokes online by listing acceptances.
This is in absolutely no way a statement about others listing acceptances. I have loved seeing these great results and imagining these kids at their great schools. Imagine I'm an alcoholic. I can't drink. But I think everyone else should enjoy themselves. It's like that.
Carolyn, I cannot thank you enough for this forum. I have gained more concrete useful, actionable (as we say in the corporate world) information here than anywhere else. We built a list from the bottom up, found a great safety, some match schools he is even regretful he won't attend, and focused on the reaches where he had some kind of distinguishing feature. Honestly, I cannot thank you enough for your wise wise counsel over the years.
Here's to the high school class of '08 and the future college graduating class of '12! Skoal!

Congrats to your son, Alumother!
I do want to add in response to Descartes' post above that my son will not be singing a cappella at Williams. (And for that the Williams community should be very thankful.)

| So, Alumother, Aluson will be a Tiger? My dad was a Tiger '45. He was involved with the school and his class up until his death this spring. Congratulations to Aluson and all the other '12s on AA.

I remember Dad, who had a wonderful voice, singing that song, Alumom.
To his great credit, he never expressed any regret that I turned down his school for Brown. Last Thanksgiving when Fang Jr told him his first choice was Yale, Dad gasped and said "WHAT???" but we all knew it was a joke. (Fang Jr. has changed his mind several times since then, as I guess most juniors have.)
