Consolation - The kids at Dartmouth were very enthusiastic with my D. At all three ivies we visited (H, P, D) the students were uniformly happy with their place - not just the student tour guides, but also random kids we ran into. At Harvard, for instance, we visited an ecology class and quickly had a group of kids talking about what a great school it was. It's very encouraging that whatever choice our students make, they will likely be happy.
Carolyn - The thing that makes Portland an interesting city for a college student is the large community of young people on the east side and in Northwest Portland in their twenties and thirties trying to explore the world - it's not really a college town, but very much an interesting post-college town. We're big on bicycles, alternative energy options, and good coffee (and good beer.) I don't know how much Reed ties into that, but I imagine it's a lot.

Well, as she often does, orchestragirl totally surprised us with her choice of University at Buffalo, but she's very impressed with the Honors College opportunities and really excited about her decision. H and I are very happy for her!

2 hours into her accepted students day visit today, my niece called to say that it's definitely Connecticut College. Interdisciplinary opportunities, study abroad, and a strong anthropology department were factors in the decision. (She also got a reasonable financial aid package). I'm very excited for her! Congrats to all, and thanks to everyone for thoughtful and helpful advice along the way. My HS freshman D is next...Great kid, not quite as serious a student as my niece. I hope we are up to the challenge!!!

All these decisions that are coming up! This is so exciting!
Our son told us yesterday that although he has made a decision, he doesn't want to talk about it until next weekend. I am guessing he wants to take the time to mourn the other college that he will not attend.

But, he wouldn't have to mourn much because if it is between two Claremonts, he can just take classes at the other one. Except, most of the other kids avoid those Harvey Mudd classes.

Congrats, Defying...
Scoop, thanks for the offer to help my D if she needs anything at Vassar. Ya never know!
BTW, I want to thank Chedva and Carolyn for suggesting Vassar to me initially. I would never have thought about it as no one around here has applied there in the past. Strangely, several kids from D's highschool applied this year.

Update:
My mom called earlham today and they said
A) My credits will transfer but not my actual grades. The Registar office is very busy with graduation which is May 3rd, so they will do the credit evaluation after that,
2) FA is a seperate office and that will take a couple of weeks.
Meanwhile the reply date is May 15th
