Just checked my son's application status websites to see if transcripts had been received, and there was a surprisingly early message that he has been accepted to the Journalism program! Hooray for rolling admissions. Thought I'd better start a thread. Woo - here we go!

Congrats! You get the honorary crown as first acceptance. It's a great feeling, particuarly at such a good school.

Wow, great news! A great acceptance at a nationally-respected program!!
Meanwhile, my S still hasn't produced a draft of his main essay and still hasn't figured out his list.  The major message I took away from the school college night I went to yesterday was DON'T PANIC......YET.

Wow, that is great! I feel a bit envious. I am not enjoying the process, and I would like to have some idea he is going somewhere.
Meanwhile, I can relate more to Consolation. Early Action deadlines are just over a month away. We are not panicing yet, but it is on my to do list, right along with locking him in his room.

D was accepted to Southern Illinois, with a $4,000 merit scholarship. Also accepted to North Central College in Naperville, IL with a $10,000 merit scholarship, and a chance to get more. My daughter's stats are : 29 ACT, 3.78 GPA and top 15% in her class.
Just wanted to put in a plug for North Central College- I don't think that my daughter will attend , but what a nice school this is, in a safe and friendly neighborhood, and an easy train ride to Chicago. They are building new facilities, and they have a very strong sports culture for such a small school. If you have a child who is good at sports, but not Division 1 good, they may get to play here and get some merit money as well.
For my daughter, the school was too small and a bit too familiar, since her dance team is in the area, but I would have been happy for her to attend.

Forgot to mention , Hummingbird, that my older daughter attends Mizzou. She is not always happy there- the greek scene got to be too much for her, and she opted out of her sorority. This caused a few nasty repercussions, but she seems to be settling back in now.
I do want to say that Mizzou offers so many fabulous opportunities if the student seeks them out- my daughter has attended the Big 12 student government conference, got a great summer job with Lead America due to some Mizzou connections, and will be leaving in 2 weeks to attend the 22nd Annual Conference on Ethics in America at West Point- an honor only given to 2 students from the entire group of Missouri public colleges. She was recommended by a student government advisor for that one.
The study abroad program also treated her very well, and she was able to go to St. Andrews in Scotland for a semester for only $3000 more than her Missouri tuition for the semester would have been. She just applied again , and hopefully will be going to Manchester, England next spring.
Journalism students are the cream of the crop at Mizzou (wish my daughter was one- it would have been easier!), and I might suggest that you don't need to go greek if you are a journalism major. That group gets put together in their own learning community and they make friends pretty quickly.
