Yes, I hope you are right, too! I also hope it doesn't mean anything really bad if you don't get anything from some schools yu applied to while you wait. Not all schools could be sending stuff out before hand, right? If so, she is only getting into 2 out of 7.

Two out of seven is enough. It means you get to make a choice!
I'm somewhat astonished at people who apply to a lot of schools and get into every one. I wonder if they chose to apply to any reaches at all. Not that anyone has to apply to reaches, of course. Or maybe their definition of a reach is very conservative, or maybe they are just incredibly lucky. Very well-qualified kids I know who ended up at selective schools such as the U of Chicago, Penn, and Bowdoin were all wait-listed and/or rejected by at least one other place, and in some cases by several. Or even many!
Trying to figure out what the adcoms are thinking by judging the quantity and quality of their marketing materials is probably like trying to divine the future by examining entrails!
And the wait goes on....

I wish they could find out just a couple weeks before the end of March/beginning of April. My D's Spring break is 4/7-14 and that is when we are planning to visit some schools for last minute choices if we have to. A couple of her schools say they mail on April 1st! How are we ever going to fly around on such short notice?! I don't think those will be possible then. I really hope she finds out mid March or at least third week of March. Alas, the more selective the colleges seem to be the later their decisions. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Have you checked to see when the accepted student weekends are? Unfortunately, they may overlap. But you might be able to map out the possibilities in advance, so that when she does hear you wouldn't be starting from zero.

Sorry--my mouse hand was a bit spasmodic and I inadvertently posted twice.

| Argh, my son is going to travel with the school Orchestra March 25-April 1 and does not want us to open his mail. So we'll have to wait for his return to learn about his acceptances/rejections!

On the other hand, it appears that many schools will not be mailing until April 1st, so if you are lucky--I think-- there will not be anything to open during that period.

At least your spring break is after April 1st! Around here the spring breaks coincide with Easter, and since it's an early Easter this year (March 23), many kids aren't going to find out their college admissions results until after it's over!
You bring up a good point about airline reservations and fares on short notice, though -- at least one of the schools on my son's "won't visit unless accepted" list for next year is going to involve airline reservations. Ugh.

Our Spring Break has never been tied to Easter (as long as my kids have been in school anyway). It must be a California thing to call it Spring Break, not Easter Break.
I am spending tomorrow checking visit days and mapping out possible visit scenarios. I have already checked plane fares to the East Coast (ugh). My DH said it would be better if just my D and i went to save the extra plane fare. My D said she could go by herself if she had to. My job has been very understanding. I am slated for a full two weeks off just in case. When I explained the situation they said I could take the whole time or let them know a couple days before and they'll put me back at work and shift the whole thing around. Aaaah...the benefits of being a nurse in a big hospital. I don't know how other families who work fulltime deal with the uncertainty of the time. I keep wondering if I should go ahead and get plane tickets now to save the money on a short notice fare, but I don't want to be stuck if we don't go!
What are other people doing?

Hoping we have that problem!
Seriously, he has applied to west coast and midwestern and eastern schools that none of us has ever seen. His degree of familiarity with the rest varies. I'm fairly sure that a number of the accepted student events overlap. The distances involved range from about 20 miles to 3,000! Post-Easter is a slow time for my business, although my H is swamped. So it will all depend on the choices, if any, that are presented.

Yes, I certainly don't want to get plane reservations and then she doesn't even get in! I won't do that. I will just have to pay the premium for getting a flight and hotel on very short notice. She was sitting on the couch very thoughtful yesterday. She looked at me and said, "What if I don't get in ANYwhere?" I said, "Then you'll go to Lewis and Clark." "Yah, I suppose," she muttered, "But, it would be really sad, wouldn't it?"
Dang it! She needs one more acceptance to feel like she has a choice. My D is a terrific student, but not an absolutely perfect kid. She has good test scores, good grades, good classes, good recs, good school, etc. But, nothing about her is incredibly shining except to me she is a very neat person, but I am her Mom. All her interviews went well. She is very pretty but doesn't know it. Does that help at all- LOL?. Ah, now I am digging. In an otherwise unblemished AP record she received a B in her AP Government class first semester. The rest were A's. She has been stewing about that one stupid B for weeks. She isn't perfect. I don't think anyone should have to be perfect to go to college.
[three more days and she will know about three of her colleges! stay busy, stay busy, stay busy]

I, too, think Lewis and Clark is a very fine school in an awesome city! I know she would be happy there and be able to find her niche. It has good programs in her interests and I honestly would love to have her there (easy, cheap flight from here, too!). It is not perfect, but what college is perfect? She could go to school in a forest for four years. That's pretty awesome! I have encouraged her to consider it seriously no matter where else she gets into. She liked it fine and is going to. It is just the thought of not having a choice that is bugging her.

| Hear hear for Lewis and Clark. It's so hard to keep in mind that all of the college choices are good ones, after focussing so much attention on the distinctions between them.
