| My friends son dragged his feet through the application process and the results are that he was waitlisted at his #1 choice, doesn't want to go to two of his other choices and has never seen the fourth choice. He's going to visit college number four but tension is high since it seems like he may well go to a college that he doesn't really like. A gap year is a real possibility, but I know there is a list of colleges that have openings. Can someone give me that link?

I just quickly went to CollegeBoard.com, and did a search - 4 year colleges, and Regular admissions deadline hasn't passed. I came up with about 1700 schools. Your friend's son can add additional criteria and get a fairly customized list.
Good luck to him!

| Thanks, I did a basic search for them but man, pickings are slim! Parents pretty much want him to stay within five hours.

In the first week of May every year, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) will have a list of schools that didn't get the yield they desired. There are usually some very good schools on that list, but he may have to be flexible about staying close to home. The link: http://www.nacacnet.org then look for "Space Availability Survey" - again, won't be up until the first or second week of May.
However, I wouldn't wait for that list. He should ask his guidance counselor to get on the phone and start calling colleges that he's interested in to ask directly if they'd consider a late application. Some will do that, but it's important to move quickly and get the GC involved. If he used the Common Application for his other schools, he may want to start identifying possibilities with the CA search engine which is on the opening page of the website.

| I know someone who walked into an admission's office of a private college without an appointment at the very end of July, an unofficial transcript from a junior college in his back pocket (applying as a transfer student), and was accepted on the spot. He then walked over to housing and got a dorm room. I don't know how financial aid worked, but the student did attend. The only delay he had was that they needed to review his courses and review the syllabi to determine which courses they would accept toward a degree from their institution.
