Time to start a new thread for those who have COMPLETED the college search. The acceptance check has been cashed and my D is happily planning her escape to college. HS graduation now can't come fast enough for her. It seems like only yesterday that we were just beginning this process. My how time flies.

Daaaad, Thanks for starting this thread. And, congratulations to your son on a terrific choice. To everyone else whose kids haven't quite reached the decision point, keep repeating after me: Everything will work out fine, everything will work out fine, everything will work out fine...
Because, it will.

Congratulations to Daaad's D and LDerochi's S. How do they ever decide? Carolyn told me it would all look different after the acceptances were all in. It's becoming more complicated, not less, and we've decided we have said enough already--the choice is completely up to S. And what do you tell everyone who hears the news and is sure he's going to choose "School A" because it's the "best" school on his list? I'm sure mine isn't the only one deciding between a variety of schools that are very different in terms of size, cost, programs, and other offerings.

congrats to those who are on to the next phase of this journey....we won't be through until April...I agree with WestrnMom now everyone offers their advice on X or Y because they have never heard of school U, V or W
Can't wait to see this list grow

we avoided the why THAT college explanation to others bcos we never said where son was applying, except: 'a few schools back east that offer good financial aid and, of course, the UCs'. It kept the peanut gallery from opining. And, when his acceptance came in, only his few, close friends, the GC and the teacher recommenders knew he had even appplied.
w-mom: attend accepted students' weekends if you can, which may close the deal. good luck.

Oh believe me, we've run head on into the "where's that?" and shaky "Oh! that's nice" from people. No big deal. Son's confidence that Elon was the best school for him pretty much overwhelms all of that.

| It must be a great feeling to be able to focus on the school and getting ready. Just making the decision must be a relief.

D and Mom visted the midwest to overnight at St. Olaf, Gustavus Adolphus, and Hope College to help make a final decision (plus a scholarship day at Gustavus). D really liked all 3 schools. The admissions departments, students and faculty were all wonderful to her and all three offered generous merit packages. The trip confirmed for D that Hope College is the best fit for her. Really, I don't think she could go wrong with any of these schools.

Rhumbob:
IMO your D did it the 'right' way, visit before and after acceptance, re-check and confirm your original impressions and firm up how you 'feel' about each college so that the best 'fit' for you is selected.
Good luck to her at Hope.

Rhumbob,
Congratulations to your daughter on an excellent choice. Hope is a terrific school, although she really couldn't have gone wrong with any of the schools that made her final list. Best of luck to her!

we are relaxed here
so in the fall H will be at Chapman in the PhD program, D1 will be in France through Northeastern's Business Dept. and D2 will be at Valpo!
as for me I will be either looking for for a second job to help pay for all of this or enjoying our recently remodeled house which gave me my own room for scrapbooking and sewing!
