When colleges charge full tuition for a semester abroad that doesn't cost that much . . .

If BU can do it for $10k less, why can't Wheaton? Is it because Boston U has many more students, so they can absorb the difference?

I'm not sure. At Carleton, I know that if the trip abroad is more than tuition, the school forgives that extra amount. However, if the trip costs less than tuition, you don't get any money back (S asked; my H has trained him well!) Keep in mind that this is my understanding from S, not first-hand info.:P

D1 (grinnell) studied in Turkey with a program run by Birmingham-Southern.  At Grinnell the policy is basically our tuition or the study abroad fees, whichever is higher.  So we paid her regular tuition & sent them the bill from Birmingham Southern, which was paid by Grinnell.  She did get a credit from Grinnell for not having board included at Bilkent University in Ankara.

D2 (Knox) is hoping to study in Florence this fall - waiting to see how this is handled with Knox!!
