My D was invited as a finalist for a music scholarship (for non-music majors).  She is very excited as this is her first choice.  Should we take this as a sign that she has been admitted to that school?

She recived the invitation that she was a finalist on Tuesday and that she needed to audition in person this Sunday.   The university is 8 hours away and my D and my H are traveling there this weekend.  We are so excited and besides the fact that this is her first choice she also would be thrilled to receive the scholarship and play in their orchestra.

It's for Lehigh and the rumor is that decisions will be mailed next Friday March 21st.

When my d received a letter to apply for a scholarship at one school, the letter contained a PS that went something like this:

"PS - Students often ask if this invitation means that they are accepted to ______. Let's just say that this is a very good sign!" (Loved the humanity and sense of humor shown, too!)

I'd say the same thing about your d's invite.

And congrats to her! It sounds really exciting!

If they have actually offered the scholarship with a set amount in writing, it's probably a good sign, however one of my children was told verbally there would be a scholarship available after an audition and then was not admitted to the school.  She will want to find out exactly what the time committment is for students with the orchestra scholarship.  We found out that some schools have limited time involvements while others consider orchestra or other music participation to be a full-time committment equal to that of a class but without the credits.

Thanks, I don't know what to think about this invitation.  It was an invitation to audition in person, she previously had sent in a CD and recommendations.  The invite said congratulations you are named a finalist and are invited to audition in person this weekend.  They said that there were many who had applied for this scholarship and that it was very competitive, the invitation was only sent to 16 people.

I guess that we will have to wait a little longer, the results should be here soon enough.

Hope the trip goes well and the outcome is Fantastic.  My SIL worked at Lehigh briefly and talked about how great it is when she visited us.  Actually she talked so much we got tired of hearing about it, but I would love to check it out sometime.

I just wanted to update.  My D did get into Lehigh and she did receive the scholarship.  We are thrilled, did not expect this.  She felt that her audition went well and that she nailed the sight reading.

The best part for me as her parent is that the scholarship comes with free lessons.  After paying for lessons for so many years, free sounds so good.  She hoping that she can make the top orchestra, they make a trip every other year and she would love to do that.

Engineeringmama, What did your daughter and you think of Lehigh's music program?
